This partial set of five pages of notes shows some of the earliest thoughts that went into the creation of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. At this stage it was called Science Ninja Squad Number 5 and featured quite a few different ideas than what finally ended up on television. Written in the Spring of 1969, here are writer and series planner Jinzo Toriumi's early directions for what would become Gatchaman. --------------------------------------------------------------- Page 1 Statesmen, soldiers and scientists have been selected from every nation to help organize the Phoenix headquarters, a group formed for world peace. The motto of Phoenix is peace and justice and its headquarters is a disk-shaped ship under the Pacific Ocean. Phoenix is the name of the headquarters and at the same time is it also the name of the giant disk ship. Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 The Science Ninja Squad has mastered Japanese ninja techniques to the point where they're second nature. They don't have to think about them to use them every day. Devices are created via scientific methods. Hero Number 5 rides on a super motorcycle to overtake enemies, moreover, he has a number of other special devices in addition to the super motorcycle.
