BotP Close-up 024

Post: # 417Post Bobkat »

Back on track! :)

This week, the team tangles with a giant that can hide anywhere it wants! I like this ep a lot because there are some classic snarky moments in it and it gives us some insight into the team dynamics. This is one of the episodes showing us how tight the Battle crew really is. (my opinion, anyway) :) Enjoy!!

The Other Jason's write up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep24.html

E24: The Musical Mummy

Act One

7-Zark-7 keeps a "watchful eye" over all parts of the universe including the oft-forgotten corners for even the slightest movement. All is currently quiet, but it doesn't last with Susan calling in. Zark flirts with her saying they should meet on a ten-second oil break. She works in a tall skyscraper and Zark is under the ocean at Center Neptune – oops! Ten seconds is not enough time. Susan assures him they will work it out sometime before informing him of an Emergency Alert from the "Galactic Early Warning System."

Zark finds the object inside the solar system as it makes a beeline for Earth, specifically the Intergalactic Research Laboratory. He notifies security. Meanwhile, a man leaves the building telling the security man, Clancey, good night. While riding in his car, he asks the news to be turned on. When the radio plays some strange music, Dr. Rainey wonders to the driver what is going on. Soon after, some bright lights attack the car. Elsewhere, another man arrives home and is about to park his car inside his garage when the bright lights appear and it's a large humanoid mech with a spiky head there to attack him!

The Phoenix flies through the sky on their way to see Chief Anderson. Mark comments that the chief was "making unhappy noises" about the latest emergency. Keyop jumps up and says he's there to save the day, "… Not to worry … Keyop's here." Jason cracks that's what really worries him with Mark reminding Keyop that the last time he struck out on his own resulted in "a real mess." Jason reports that Defense Center has cleared them to land and Tiny lands the Phoenix.

The team rides in a cab and passes an amusement park that gains 100% of Keyop's attention. Its major attraction is a large Indian statue at the entrance. When Keyop says he'll go back later, Mark/Jason (Mark's mouth is moving but it's Jason's voice) wonders why Chief Anderson is so "uptight" about the situation. When Keyop squirms around in the front seat, Princess chews him out to turn around and sit! Keyop calls her a "killjoy" garnering laughter from their three teammates in the back seat. Mark tells Keyop not to worry; the statue isn't going anywhere.

The cab drops them off at Security Headquarters where they meet with Chief Anderson. The chief briefs them that "three of our top scientists" have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Keyop jokes that they're fishing but the chief stomps that out right away. Chief Anderson hands Mark a bunch of photographs while telling the team that their mission is to ensure the remaining scientists stay where they are. Mark, Jason, and Tiny peruse the photos as the chief warns them that all security measures have so far failed. Mark says confidently that G-Force has it from here with Tiny backing him up.

The team splits up with Mark protecting Professor Walter Lambert, inventor of the Electro-Dynamic Force Field. Zark monitors the team movements. He is sure the disappearances and the space object are related. He's also sure Spectra is behind it. Meanwhile, Professor Lambert arrives home with Mark getting out of his car and scaling the property wall. Inside, Professor Lambert meets with a man who gives him plans for new secret installations. Center Neptune wants Force Fields around them but during the meeting three guys who looked to be dressed like blackbirds break in and steal the plans. Mark gives chase, first in civilian mode, then transmuted as G-Force Commander.

The three culprits jump from building to building and are joined later by other men dressed the same at a construction site. They try to corner Mark and each side trades trash talk about making the trip to Earth and unwise choices. The blackbirds then run a circle around Mark churning up dust. A pair of hands emerges out of the ground to grab his feet but Mark sees them in time and jumps clear. However, the blackbirds give an airborne chase and Mark has to fight them off as he flies. Mark also has to dodge various things thrown at him including I-beams, hooks and other blackbirds. When Mark jumps off a hook, a group of blackbirds try to force him down into a moving vat but Mark fires his boomerang to cut a line that he grabs in the nick of time. The blackbirds scatter prior to them becoming mincemeat. The blackbirds escape with one jumping the wall where Mark chases the car on foot. Mark jumps in his car and tries to catch the wayward blackbird but nearly hits a truck in the process. The blackbird releases some black ink/smoke to loose Mark – the move proves successful. Mark runs on foot and comes upon the amusement park.

That night, the team scouts the park with a music man playing the flute on one stage. The music mesmerizes several children including Keyop. Mark grabs Keyop by the ear and tells Keyop to find Princess and "get back to work." Keyop likes the music but Mark calls it "weird." Later, Princess and Keyop follow the professor's car on her motorcycle. Then they suddenly hear some strange music but keep driving. The car stops suddenly at the lit up giant's feet. When Princess and Keyop see it, he says, "Trick or treat." Princes wonders what it is before positioning her motorcycle between the mech and the car. The mech nearly steps on the car in the process. Keyop signals to the car "to get lost." Princess and Keyop lure the mech away from the car. As the mech reaches for her bike, Princess jumps it off the road into a ravine. However, upon landing, a light beam hits the bike and completely destroys it. Princess and Keyop are thrown free, but they're fine. Princess radios Mark to report, "We've just located a giant mummy."

Act Two

Zark has his G-Force helmet on when he recognizes the electrified giant is the space object they've been looking for. He says they still don't know who's behind it but it has all the earmarks of Spectra. Zark flies to his monitors to put his electronic comparator to work to find the giant. It leads Zark to the amusement park where Keyop wants to keep visiting.

The team stands outside the entrance of the park staring up at the giant Indian. Mark says they know it's not that statue. They discuss the situation: Tiny asks Princess if they didn't imagine the whole thing. Princess counters that Keyop saw it too. Jason cracks, "That's like asking Peter Pan if he believes in fairy tales." Mark has a hard time buying two giants in one day and asks if one were a 100-foot giant, where would you hide? The team answers, "Any place I wanted to!" Mark says something weird is happening and they plan to scout out the park that night.

The team stands in the middle of the park. Keyop heads back to the flute player, even asking Mark if he can listen for just a minute. Princess isn't too keen about the idea, but Mark says at least they know where he is. She also mentions that the music is "weird" and how she doesn't like it. She points out how Keyop can't stay away from it, Mark agrees with Jason adding that the music is hypnotic. Mark calls the player "spooky" and splits up the team for "strictly reconnaissance" taking the flute player himself. The team runs off in different directions with Princess grabbing Keyop at the last minute.

After the park has closed, the team are now in their uniforms. Mark follows the flute player to a spooky building on a hill. Meantime, Keyop jumps into an octopus ride that tries to kill him and Princess by crashing its car onto the ground. Keyop crawls off the thing and into a control room where he sees several blackbirds manning the controls. He throws his bolos to disable one guy that forces a lever towards the floor, thus shutting it down. Keyop says again, "Not to worry, Keyop's here." Princess tells him they have to find Mark, who could be "in great danger."

Mark makes his way inside the strange building on the hill. He surveys the place and finds a throne room. The door slams behind him and the lights turn on as the stone throne turns around. The flute player sits saying they "have a music lover" visiting. The player is surrounded by about four blackbirds and reveals himself to be Zoltar! He says he's been expecting G-Force since the scientists began disappearing. Mark isn't surprised that it's Zoltar. Zoltar begins playing the flute and it activates the Indian statue! The mech soon becomes the electrified mummy that G-Force has been seeking. Zoltar says the "hunter" has one more job to make Earth vulnerable and ready for Spectra to take over. He adds that the last person to grab is Security Chief Anderson!

As the mummy moves out, Mark radios Jason and Tiny to get on protecting the chief. Jason and Tiny acknowledge the order and take off. Meanwhile, the blackbird leader says that it is their turn to attack the commander after his talk with Zoltar. Six blackbirds fly toward Mark fighting them off.

At Security Headquarters, Chief Anderson's office is lit up for days with the mummy just outside his window! Jason and Tiny move in and know they have to distract the monster. The mummy reaches into the office to try to grab Chief Anderson who tries to evade it. Tiny drives the car toward the mummy and crashes it into the mummy's foot. Meanwhile, Princess and Keyop arrive in time to assist Mark who was about to be defeated by the blackbirds. Keyop says, yet again, "Not to worry, Keyop's here." Mark then fires his boomerang at Zoltar knocking the flute out of his hands. With the flute silent, the screen goes off and Mark jumps at the chance to apprehend Zoltar. Keyop picks up the flute with Mark telling him to play it, to play anything. When Keyop hesitates, Mark remarks about Keyop's "stage fright" and tells Princess "to wind him up." Princess says, "You never have trouble using your mouth! Play something!" Zoltar offers to make Keyop rich if he doesn't play it. Mark cracks that Zoltar doesn't have anything left to give, but he actually does when a control panel is exposed. Keyop decides to start playing and it's awful!

Because the flute is tied to the mummy's controls, the mech loses its mind and begins to self-destruct. Jason and Tiny watch from the street as the mech stands in front of them. The mummy eventually short circuits and its head explodes while the control panel blows up. Mark is thrown onto Keyop and Zoltar makes his escape into a rocket. But the vibrations collapse the building they're in. Mark, Princess and Keyop escape just before the building explodes. Mark checks in with Jason and Tiny, who are also okay. They report they have Chief Anderson and he's safe too.

Mark orders them to assemble on the Phoenix and they head home. Princess and Keyop have gifts with Keyop teasing Princess about opening hers but she plans to wait. They tease back and forth until Keyop starts playing the flute again – this time "Yankee Doodle" – much to her chagrin and their teammates amusement.

Zark is still in his helmet at his monitors saying that G-Force stopped Zoltar again. Mark calls in for landing clearance and adds that they have a gift from the grateful scientists of the Intergalactic Research Laboratory. Zark is surprised when he has a present. Mark says when he shakes the box, it gurgles. Zark says it's moments like these that he's proud to be G-Force.
