BotP Close-up 025

Post: # 421Post Bobkat »

Lots of things going on here in the 907 (supposed to be in 541, but that's for another day) :)

Anyway, this week's plot has lots of things happening on Space Island. Worse yet, one of Princess' friends could be involved! (Oh no!) Yet another ep that gives a glimpse into the team dynamic of the Battle crew. :) The Fiery Lava Giant! Enjoy!

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep25.html

E25: The Fiery Lava Giant

Act One

7-Zark-7 is having another quiet night under the sea but he still has his helmet on. He flies to his monitors with 1-Rover-1 following him via Rover's helicopter move. Zark comments that he isn't sure whether it's day or night because they're underwater. Zark contacts a small, but livable asteroid discovered by space pioneers seeking radio emanation sources in distant galaxies. It's called Space Island.

Space Island was colonized with geothermal engineers are working to harness the volcanic energy of the asteroid. They hope to turn it into a refueling station for longer space flights. Zark then scans the countryside and finds Monument Mountain. A sculptor carved the faces of the colony's founders into the mountain, very much like Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, United States. Now, his daughter, Amelia, continues the work to complete the project. Zark explains that Amelia has dedicated her life to completing the "great work" her father started. She has taken it upon herself to finish it after her father's passing. Zark compares the loneliness of working on the side of a mountain to his own being underwater.

Amelia climbs off the mountain talking to her subjects. She's puzzled by the new cracks in the mountain wondering aloud as to the reason. She jumps in her jeeps and drives off and the last fast flashes its eye. Meanwhile, the engineers observe the volcano activity. For one, he's been on Space Island for 12 years and never has seen such busy activity. The geothermal heat probes have detected "a tremendous new pool of hot lava" building up inside the volcano. In response, the engineer orders the plant closed and an immediate evacuation.

On Spectra, the Luminous One tells Zoltar not to screw up their latest plans to invade Space Island. Spectra wants the energy source for themselves. Zoltar submits and presses a button to put their plan in action. Meantime, the last face on Monument Mountain moves out leaving a gap. The volcano explodes and a giant lava beast emerges. As it walks, it leaves behind a total mess as it's made of lava!

Space Island has been able to send a message to Center Neptune requesting assistance. The messenger tells them about the volcano exploding and how a giant lava monster is destroying the geothermal plant. Chief Anderson listens to the tape along with G-Force in civilian form. The chief files the report of the attack at 1033 and terminated at 1800 hours. The team begins speculating: Mark wonders what could be there that is a "fiery giant" and Jason surmises that the lady sculptor could be a Spectran spy. Princess tells them to hold their horses because Amelia is a friend of hers – they've known each other a long time. Jason believes it would be in the best interest of those living on Space Island to bring her in for questioning and everyone agrees. Mark requests clearance to fly to Space Island, which Chief Anderson grants.

The team transmutes and runs to the Phoenix. They launch and fly through the solar system: "past Saturn, past Jupiter and Mars and the thousands of asteroids in between." They travel through the cosmos faster than light. The team eventually goes to time warp where "time and distance are meaningless here, a century can pass in a second and a billion miles is only a step." They arrive at Space Island in just a few minutes.

G-Force flies above the devastation that looks "terrible" but "all the people got out." Mark orders Tiny to take the Phoenix down for a closer look. This is where they see the giant footsteps and follow them into the volcano. Upon landing in the volcano, the outside hull heats up with the systems unable to keep up. Princess calls out "maximum heat stress" while they're still following the footsteps. They keep their eyes open as Princess calls out the temp at "800 K." Keyop spots a tunnel and Mark asks the direction of it. The tunnel heads south towards Monument Mountain and Amelia. Tiny remarks that Jason "was right." Princess remains silent at the possibility her friend could be involved.

As they continue to survey what's what, the volcano decides to erupt. Mark orders Tiny to take the Phoenix up to a higher altitude "and fast." Just as Tiny moves, the fiery giant goes after the Phoenix. It barrel rolls to get away. Tiny lands the craft in the water where the Phoenix sets off a lot of steam as the hull is still hot from being inside a volcano! Tiny remarks the giant is from the mountain while the team wades to shore. Princess defends her friend as "an artist, not a spy for Spectra." Mark tells Princess that he know Amelia is her friend but they have to find her and question her because the fact can't be disputed that the face is from Monument Mountain.

Act Two

Rover barks at Zark in his Ready Room waking him from a nap! Zark apparently pushed his off button when he sat down – "saves energy." Susan calls concerned about Zark who assures her that he's always in "factory fresh working order." Susan comments that he only gets a ten-second oil break but he was out of contact for 30 seconds! Zark finds this unsettling but Susan tells him that she will gladly turn him on. Zark tells her that she already did! Zark says he needs to meet her someday and mentions that her calibrations are a "perfect 38-24-36." Zark enters the vacuum tube and gets back to work to figure out how G-Force is faring on Space Island.

On Space Island, Amelia gets back to work on Monument Mountain. She notes, "the mouth is a little raw." She climbs back to her latest spot where she was working. On the ground, Mark and Jason watch her. Jason points her out and that she's working on the giant's head! The boys fly to her and force her inside the mountain. Jason accuses her of being a spy but his hand is over her mouth. Princess and Keyop soon join them. Princess chews out Jason about not giving Amelia the chance to talk! Once he moves his hand, Amelia is ready to fight Jason! Meantime, Mark and Keyop find a tunnel inside the face's mouth where they landed with Amelia. Jason apologizes for his overreaction but he's certain she knows something of the fiery giant. Amelia tells them she carved the head of a great man, not a giant. Mark then tells her that the head she's been working on is the same one on the fiery giant. He then leads the group into the tunnel because he's sure the answers are there.

They're soon in a metal shaft deep inside the mountain and it leads to a base where Spectra is creating an artificial volcanic eruption! Mark states this must be where the giant takes its "hot lava baths." Princess feels vindicated and says as much to her teammates to not be so quick to judge Amelia.

The Luminous One is pleased with the plan thus far. It tells Zoltar that only G-Force stands in their way to making Space Island their attack base. The Luminous One orders that G-Force be found and destroyed. At the base on Space Island, machinery starts moving and the team has to jump out of the way with Amelia, lest they be dumped into the lava bath. The giant head is brought to the bath and assembled with the body as the team and Amelia watches. Keyop calls it "a hot head." As the giant is put together, Amelia and Jason now understand where the other was coming from and apologize to each other. Princess tells Mark they need to stop the giant before it destroys any more of Space Island.

The giant walks out of the base as Mark calls Tiny for a quick pick up. Tiny brings the Phoenix in for the pick up. Once everyone is on board, they go to battle stations. Tiny informs Mark the Phoenix is ready thanks to an overhaul supervised by Zark. They shoot a bird missile to the top of the base – a body of water's underside. The water rushes in and Tiny navigates the Phoenix through the onslaught eventually going airborne. Meanwhile, the Spectran base is flooded out.

They seek out the fiery giant as it walks through a lava flow. Spectra finds the Phoenix right away and Zoltar abandons plans to destroy the city. He wants to take out G-Force and the Phoenix. The team separates and Zoltar sees what they're up to: divide and conquer. Zoltar wants them taken out one at a time. Mark orders the team toward the ocean to "cool him off." As they lure the giant closer, Princess says, "you grouchy old bag of hot air." Keyop is able to get it to step into the ocean but Mark makes the kill move making the giant reach after him into the water. The giant is then taken out as the hot lava cools in the water. Mark reports to Center Neptune that the threat is over and Space Island is safe.

When the mission is over, the team watches from the ground as Amelia works. She starts over carving a new face chiseling the rock. She's determined to carry on what her father started. As the Phoenix flies home, Zark babbles on about the team learning a lesson in justice and that everyone is assumed innocent until being proven guilty. Zark specifically points a finger at Jason, who still feels bad about accusing Amelia.

At Center Neptune, Zark is in his helmet at his monitors. He allows Rover to guide the team home past Canis Major. Rover has a knack for getting them past Sirius, the Dog Star, and the brightest star in the night sky on Earth. Zark says the brightest stars are actually the five members of G-Force. He and Rover give the G-Force salute.
