BotP Close-up 041

Post: # 489Post Bobkat »

This week has one of the most fun episodes in Battle: The Space Rock Concert!

The Dirty Name 5 is putting on a concert when they are kidnapped by the villainous Zoltar! It's up to G-Force to rescue the most famous band in the galaxy! :) Their lyrics leave a lot to be desired but we get a peek into the 'normal' lives of our heroes. :) Enjoy!

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep41.html

E41: The Space Rock Concert

Act One

7-Zark-7 wears his helmet and cape keeping watch over all galaxy defenses and security. Zark says he's in charge of the complex and that he's invented all the "gadgets" that G-Force uses. He claims he even designed their command ship, the Phoenix. Zark flies over to his monitors and cleans his turned off monitor. He says, "I even do windows." He then tunes in to planet Spectra to see if they're planning something against Earth.

Zoltar consults with the Luminous One who asks if Zoltar has done his bidding. Zoltar answers that the ship has been equipped as the Luminous One ordered. The creature is pleased as they will be able to use sound as a weapon. The Luminous One tells Zoltar this is their chance to make a defiant Earth submit to Spectra's demands. Zoltar says they have waited a long time for victory. The Luminous One tells Zoltar the mission must succeed for Spectra's survival … and his own. The creature orders Zoltar to launch for Earth. A rocket blasts off from Spectra and travels out of the Crab Nebula and through the Solar System to Earth.

Zark detects the ship and tries to contact G-Force who are attending an outdoor rock music concert. Zark tries to contact the team with a Red Alert but the music is too loud for him to be heard over the wrist communicators. Lights flash and the band, The Dirty Name 5 who is the most famous in the Milky Way, perform on stage. The crowd is thrilled and dances to the enchanting music. The band gives a full on show to include monsters and butterflies.

G-Force is on the grass far away from the stage but the sound is still too great for Zark to break in. Mark is sitting against a tree, Jason is lying in the grass beside him, Princess sits in the grass in the middle with Keyop wearing a long hair wig and Tiny beside her. Tiny sits cross-legged with a strange looking wig. Keyop grabs the wig then Tiny grabs Keyop's wig and the pair nearly fights. Princess says she can't take them anywhere. She admonishes them for not being quiet while Mark and Jason exchange glances. Suddenly, a ship appears out of nowhere and kidnaps The Dirty Name 5!

Zoltar is on board the ship and orders the activation of the Vacuum Pressure. A column lowers onto the stage sucking the band into the ship! Mark and Jason immediately jump to their feet recognizing the ship as belonging to Spectra and the fact they now have the band. Jason says they need to alert Chief Anderson and Princess tells her teammates, "Come on, let's go." The ship flies off and disappears.

The ship lands in a secret Spectran base where Zoltar introduces himself to the bad and knows he interrupted their concert. The band is in a soundproof room with sheets of music that Zoltar has written. The band resists cooperating with Zoltar but the leader warns he will have to be "harsh, very harsh" with them. Zoltar is tired of the delays and walks into the control booth. Helmets are lowered onto the band members then Zoltar informs them he will use their music against the Earth. He wants Earth to be "more flexible" in its dealings with Spectra. The band plays as Zoltar's goons roll tape.

The ship later flies over a city where Zoltar orders the volume turned up and the deployment of the "speaker horns." They began playing the tape at full volume destroying structures as they go.

Later at Center Neptune, the team listens to news reports of massive destruction of a radius of ten miles but no loss of life. Chief Anderson walks into his office with a tape made by girl who had the "presence of mind" to make a recording. He plays it and the team nearly falls onto the floor. The sound is terrible! The chief tells them he believes the music is from The Dirty Name 5 and now they know why Zoltar kidnapped them. Chief Anderson believes the band members are in grave danger. Princess wonders what Zoltar hopes to gain with "weird music" and Mark isn't sure "but he sure doesn't have a hit record." The chief says Zoltar has already made demands, which Princess responds, "What does he want? Our biggest stadium so he can hold his own crazy rock concert?" Mark is sure whatever it is, Earth isn't going to hand it over. Chief Anderson tells Mark that he's right and the demand is for all the food and processing plants. He then asks Tiny if the Phoenix is ready for take off. Tiny answers it will be as soon as he sits at the controls. Mark says they should blast off. "While we're rapping, Zoltar's raiding." Chief Anderson tells the team to go after him but to be careful because of the musicians.

G-Force launches out of Center Neptune while Zoltar's ship is on its way to attack another city and leave a trail of destruction. The Phoenix flies in behind the ship and Zoltar sees it right away on the monitor. Zoltar puts on a pair of headphones and turns the ship around. He plans to give G-Force a big helping of his new music. The Phoenix starts shaking like crazy as Mark observes, "Their music always did rock me, but this is ridiculous." Tiny says the needles are going "space crazy" as the ship moves into a position where it can inflict the most damage.

As the radar screen cracks, Jason says, "I hope they don't play a second chorus." He then moves to fire some missiles and orders the "Ejector chutes" activated. Mark stops the gunner while more cracks form. Mark asks Tiny if they can lose the Spectran ship and Tiny would like to try. Mark orders the Reserve Jets kicked in and to blast off. Zoltar sees what they do and says there's no escape this time. The Spectran ship follows the Phoenix and Princess says it's right on their back. Keyop calls it a "tailgator!" Mark agrees and tells Tiny to "hit the water." Zoltar finally lets up and takes the ship elsewhere. The Phoenix sinks to the sea bottom. Jason observes that they're okay but Zoltar is "still up there." Tiny adds what matters: they can fight another day. Mark knows what really matters, "We didn't even slow Zoltar down."

Act Two

Zark rides in the vacuum tube up to his Ready Room. He says watching G-Force escape made his Dynamometer nearly magnetize. Zark enters his Ready Room for a ten second oil break now that the team is safe. He muses the name of the band and hopes G-Force can rescue them. Zark pumps some oil near an antenna – a light body oil from 1998, a very good year.

Back at the Spectran base, the band steps up its resistance but Zoltar has a trick up his sleeve. He puts electroshocks through the helmets to force the band submit. Zoltar demands that they play and they do. Another tape is made of The Dirty Name 5's music. Later, Zoltar takes his ship to destroy another city with the new tape. The result is the same with more destruction. All defense forces are defeated as well.

The Phoenix has surfaced with the satellite dish deployed under the G-2 car out of the nose. Princess is listening for any unusual sound but it's a slow, long process. Keyop gripes about sitting and Princess tells him she understands how he feels. Mark says they don't have anything on Zoltar with Princess adding she would feel better if they were returning with good news. Just then, Zark calls them through video monitor telling them that they are picking up strange signals from Lake Titicaca. He orders the team to "fly down there at once and investigate."

The drummer of The Dirty Name 5 taps on the bars but Tumbo tells him the guards will take it as a signal for help. The drummer blows it off saying it's like when prisoners protest terrible food. The girl lead singer tells Eddie, the drummer, she'll help him signal. Meanwhile, the Phoenix arrives at Lake Titicaca and Mark orders the detectors activated and the dish is deployed again. Princess says the sound is giving the scope fits. Mark recognizes it as a call for help. Mark orders them down.

Tiny dives the Phoenix in and they find the Spectran base with no problem. Mark tells the team they'll go in and they're not knocking. Meanwhile in the base, Zoltar punishes the team with more electroshocks for trying to signal for help. They beg him to stop but Zoltar is relentless. Suddenly, the base shudders but that is because the Phoenix has rammed her beak in! Water floods the base as Mark yells from the bubble, "You can stop the music, Zoltar. The concert's over!"

Zoltar says they're only an interruption but Keyop breaks into recording booth to rescue the band. Princess follows Keyop as Mark confronts Zoltar "with a new sound" but Zoltar says the Sonic Boomerang does nothing for him. Zoltar then escapes to his ship where he plans to play more music. Princess drags the lead singer out and says they made it just in time. Jason tells them the whole band is going to be okay but they have to stop Zoltar! Mark says Zoltar is already taking off and they load up to give chase.

Tiny "pours it on" and soon surfaces. Zoltar is annoyed because G-Force is like "irritating bees." Zoltar tries to tear up the Phoenix again with the sonic ship by flying above G-Force. A trail of destruction is left as the two ships fly on. Jason cracks that Zoltar gets a tune and "plays it to death." The band isn't fairing as well as the team and the team isn't doing so hot. Just as things are getting unbearable with multiple cracks, Chief Anderson calls the Phoenix on video. He tells the team a solution is at hand: Zark will give instructions. The idea is to turn the sound waves against the ship in a refocused beam. Chief Anderson tells them they will have to deploy the Sonar Probe. Jason is skeptical at the "long shot" and Mark asks what happens if the Probe attracts rather than deflects. The chief says, "Zark guarantees it" before cutting the video chat.

Mark tells the team, "Well, ol' Zark never goofs." He then orders Tiny to release the Sonar Probe and flies toward the ship. Just as the signal peaks, Princess turns a dial to refocus the beam. Silence reigns and Zoltar wonders why the music stopped. One of the goons points out that the sound waves have reversed. Zoltar knows he's in trouble and orders them to abandon ship! The Spectran ship begins to shake apart and eventually self-destructs much to the relief of the team. Keyop says, "Bullseye!" Zoltar does escape and he vows to be rid of G-Force forever.

That night, The Dirty Name 5 gives their concert with the team in their same spots. Keyop asks Tiny about his wig and the pilot says he doesn't need a wig to be "groovy." Tiny gets into the music while Princess laments about being unable to stay awake. Zark doesn't blame Princess for being tired but he says they're going to enjoy the concert in peace. Zark says the rock music always made him crazy but he has a "tineater." Zark says he can set the whole galaxy singing – the praises of G-Force.
