BotP Close-up 070

Post: # 590Post Bobkat »

It's a mannequin army versus G-Force this week. However, it's not that quite cut and dried.

In one corner we have Tyna, a beautiful young woman who is forced to work for Spectra. Her parents are being held hostage to coerce her cooperation. Jason meets Tyna on an abandoned mountain road and her involvement causes tension between the top two G-Forcers.

In another corner, we have Battle's brilliant editing. For one, the dog in Battle doesn't die. He runs off scared. In the original, unfortunately, the pooch passes thanks to the mannequins. Either way, the Swan is captured by the enemy. Enjoy this week's plot! :)

The Other Jason's write up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep70.html

E70: Rage of the Robotoids

Act One

7-Zark-7 is at his monitors keeping a never-ending eye on the happenings in outer space. 1-Rover-1 sits by him as Zark speaks about having assistance in this task on distant planets and far-off galaxies but he's in the Nerve Center and everything clears through him. Zark is currently checking on Vega, the brightest star in Lyra and everything seems fine. He goes on stating that some stars are so far away their light is just reaching Earth but the star has faded out of existence. Zark laments that his job is "tricky" because what may seem okay, may not be there anymore! Susan interrupts his musings with a large unidentified flying object heading toward the Solar System. She adds the craft originated in the Crab Nebula and that only means one thing: Spectra and Zoltar!

Zark finds the craft on his monitors as it keeps on its trajectory to Sector 9, Azimuth 4 on Earth. Zark says that's Metro City and he's alerted the area. That night, a policeman walks his beat and checks out something suspicious on the waterfront. He flashes his light toward a creature not of this world. Lightning strikes.

Chief Anderson brings the team into his office telling them "it's happened again." The chief goes on to say the officer was badly injured and is currently in the ICU. Princess asks if the police have any leads with the chief answering that the "police are baffled and the people are in terror." He orders the team to Metro City to see if they can find anything because no one knows when it will strike again, or where. The team salutes and chants, "G-Force!" before running out

The team leaves for Metro City in their own individual vehicles. They feel that by splitting up, they can find out what's going on. Jason drives his car on a mountain road without traffic and he knows he'll make good time into the city. The road is in the middle of nowhere and there's a cab! Jason wonders why a taxi is on that road in the middle of the night. The cab driver swerves into a wreck trying to avoid a giant creature that appears as a mannequin.

The girl passenger says, "Oh! Please, no!" while a whole group of the creatures surround the cab. The driver points in a panic asking what the creatures are. The mannequins shoot some sort of chemical that look like smoke rings breaking the cab windshield. The girl runs out of the cab and away from the creatures. The cab driver runs after her but he's caught by the chemical rings covering him and he collapses.

Jason runs to the edge of the cliff overlooking the activity and notices the girl running. The mannequins form up into a mech shaped like a top spitting out the chemical rings and whirl toward the girl who now stands at the edge of a cliff. Jason rushes to her aid driving his car like a madman but the girl falls! Jason flies to her catching her mid-air. The mannequins break up and take off running. Jason is left wondering what the creatures were as he looks down on the girl. "And why would they want to hurt anything this beautiful?"

At Center Neptune, Mark and Jason verbally scrap with Mark claiming he's not accusing Tyna of anything. Jason defends Tyna telling Mark he didn't see the attack and how the "robotoids" try to kill her. Princess jumps in saying she's confused about the attack on Tyna – why pick on Tyna? Mark spins away from Jason asking why was she in the middle of nowhere in a taxi. Jason wants Mark to give Tyna a chance and is sure she has a reasonable answer to all his questions. Mark says if that's the case, she has nothing to worry about. Jason snarks, "Oh, sure." Mark turns back to him and just wants Jason to keep an open mind about what's going on. Jason then goes off because Tyna is in the hospital and Mark acts as if she's the one at fault! Jason walks out with Keyop calling after him but Jason doesn't stop.

Jason decides to visit Tyna in the hospital – she's in room 5. A nurse goes to check on her but is brutally attacked with the same rings the robotoids used. Jason arrives in time to see the nurse collapse in the hallway but remains out of Tyna's sight. As she leaves, Jason flashes back to Mark telling him to keep an open mind. Jason realizes Mark was right.

At night, Tyna walks along the waterfront by herself but Jason isn't far behind her. Tyna knows she's being followed and continues on her way. Jason wonders what she's up to. Meanwhile at the hospital, the team wearing their civilian clothes confers with a doctor asking what could cause the burns on the nurse. The doctor tells them it's caused by a source of heat applied from several different angles. Mark calls it "strange" and the doctor agrees finding the scenario hard to believe. The doctor adds there is a gaseous element that causes unconsciousness but that's all he has. There is one last thing that the doctor gives Mark – a piece of something "found near the body."

At Center Neptune, Chief Anderson briefs the team that Zark has put the material through a battery of tests. Whatever it is, it isn't from Earth. Mark surmises that the material is from Spectra! Chief Anderson confirms this saying they have Zoltar to deal with. Just then, Mark receives a signal – it's Jason! He reports that he's down at the waterfront but he's interrupted by a bright light and a whole bunch of mannequin mechs. The woman leader cracks, "Curiosity killed the cat!" Jason retorts, "When the cat's away, the rats will play." At that point a rocket-propelled hand knocks Jason out cutting off his communications for good!

Mark tries to raise him but with no success. He tells the chief it sounds like Jason is in trouble. Chief Anderson asks why Jason is on the waterfront. Keyop chimes in that Jason's probably following Tyna with Princess adding it sounds romantic. Mark tells them to stop and picks up the piece knowing anything is possible if Zoltar is involved. Princess offers that the radio could have just quit but Mark knows she doesn't believe that anymore than he does! Tiny muses about Tyna being a pretty girl but stops and refocuses knowing that's not what they're talking about. Mark has lost patience because his teammate is in dire straits and gets everyone focused on finding Jason. They salute and chant, "G-Force!" Chief Anderson gives them some advice before leaving: keep their eyes open and travel separately as it makes them less likely targets.

The team leaves and travels to Metro City. Chief Anderson ponders this mission – he has "grave misgivings" due to Zoltar's and Spectra's involvement in the whole situation. The team travels to Metro City in their individual vehicles. Mark is determined to find Jason and figure out what's going on.

Act Two

Zark paces in the control room worried about robots being programmed for evil. It gives his Trigatron chills thinking about the prospect. Zark keeps musing about Zoltar and his robotoids swarming all over Metro City, especially the waterfront where there are a lot of big, empty buildings. He flies to his monitors to tune in the waterfront. He wants to see if he can detect anything that will help the team.

Near the waterfront, a stray dog digs in a garbage can when a robotoid approaches it. The dog's yelps gain Princess' attention. She steers to check it out wondering, "what scared him so." She follows a robotoid running from the scene including leaping over a canal. Princess keeps following and winds up in a junkyard. Princess knows she's following the same kind of creature Jason saw on the mountain road. As she walks through the junkyard, Princess is surprised as a real mannequin falls out of a vehicle. She realizes they're chasing things, not creatures. She walks up on a whole pile of mannequins and has a robotoid attack her.

Tiny flies around in the Phoenix over the city and notices Princess' bike abandoned in the junkyard. Tiny lands the ship to investigate and calls out to her. He notices a flint of light among the junk and walks to it. Soon, he's surrounded by a whole group of robotoids! He tries talking his walk out with no success. Tiny then radios Mark and gives his Direction Finder. Mark knows they have their hands full if Tiny's in trouble.

Tyna arrives at a mansion due to being summoned by Mala. Tyna hopes she still not angry because Tyna regrets trying to leave. Mala smokes a cigarette telling Tyna that Mala's brother Zoltar wouldn't tolerate such behavior but Mala is being more "generous" by giving Tyna another chance. Tyna fights back, knowing she has no choice because her parents are being held hostage on Spectra. Mala only expects Tyna's best efforts from here on and Tyna spits, "Thank you" before walking out.

At some point, Mark and Keyop joined up and they investigate a creepy mansion together. Once they walk down some stairs, they find footprints on a dusty floor and follow them wondering where they'll lead to. They enter what appears to be a two-floor art gallery and the doors close automatically behind them. They're locked in!

A woman's voice laughs at them and welcomes them before dropping them another level. The same woman who appeared when Jason was knocked out is here and she reveals the three captured G-Forcers. Keyop nearly jumps to Jason as the woman calls it a "grand reunion of G-Force for the very last time." Mark tells her back, "This is not our farewell performance." The woman isn't amused calling Mark's words "brave" for a prisoner. She orders the robotoids to shoot the rings at the captured G-Forcers!

The robotoids surround Mark and Keyop before jumping in the air and forming into a spinning mech. It hits an arch spreading the robotoids everywhere. One shoots a ring at Keyop! Mark pulls out some explosives and throws them. He's beyond frustrated, "How are we supposed to fight machines!?" His explosives only take out a few of the robotoids. Mark and Keyop take action of their own to free their teammates. Tiny has to force one restraint out of the wall. Jason joins the fight by taking out several with his fighting skills.

The robotoids fly, run and jump around the team with more and more joining the fight. Mark throws more explosives but again, only some of the robotoids are taken out. Princess throws her yo-yo taking out more. Princess and Tiny join their three teammates and Mark orders the Whirlwind Pyramid. The tactic works taking out the robotoids. The woman leader is hit in the head by a piece of robotoid and makes a run for it. The team gives chase with Jason wanting to grab her. Mark gives them a direction and find Tyna without her wig and glasses! Jason kneels beside her as she explains she's hurt her leg and that Zoltar will have no problem blowing them up. Jason helps her and they escape prior to a massive explosion.

Zark says that Tyna was only serving Zoltar because her parents were being held on a Spectran slave planet. Zark hopes G-Force can assist in freeing her parents and starts all his components to work on it. Mark and Princess stop in to visit Zark and Rover. Princess tells him they all made back safely with Zark sharing some good news. He says his Interstellar Probes discovered that Tyna's parents escaped the Spectran slave planet while G-Force got her out of the exploding mansion. Tyna's parents are now on the friendly planet of Tolak. Mark tells Zark he's a genius and Princess says he comes up with the most beautiful answers. She kisses him before they leave to share the news with Tyna. Rover yips and Zark says it's always nice to be appreciated. Rover keeps yipping wondering why the rings had no effect on the G-Force members and Zark does NOT have an answer! The only thing he can come up with is their transmutation configuration. Zark feels it's best not to question the incredible power of G-Force and salutes.
