BotP Close-up 086

Post: # 666Post Bobkat »

This week is one of my favorites because there's a mixing of the format and the characters sent not he mission is Tiny and Keyop! :)

The pair are sent undercover after it's discovered Spectra is spewing salt on Earth's mountaintops. This could potentially contaminate the drinking water on Earth. There's lots implied in this ep including the hierarchy on Spectra itself. I also have to add, there's a scene in the preview that is NOT in the ep and I feel ripped off every time I see the ep! i so want to see Mark in Jason's lap on the Phoenix! That aside, enjoy this week's plot - Super Space Spies! :)

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep86.html

E86: Super Space Spies

Act One

In an Arctic region, a pair of mountain climbers are not having a good day. One slides down a mountainside and takes forever to stop. Once he does, he calls up to his partner to say he's all right. He finds some open water to clean up only to discover it's salt water! That should not be the case on this mountain.

Zoltar is antsy about the two men realizing there's salt on the mountain. The commander, dressed in a tiger-like uniform, tells Zoltar they're only a pair of scientists with G-Force on a routine check. This doesn't sit well with the leader who tells his commander that he wants no one round, especially G-Force! The commander says he put the pollutant in the snow where it can't be detected. Zoltar says nothing can go wrong with their latest plan and wants the commander to keep the men away. He also reminds the "captain" that the success of the mission rests with him. The captain only asks for a percentage but Zoltar balks saying he must follow orders implicitly, otherwise, it's going to be a great deal of trouble for the captain.

7-Zark-7 rides the vacuum tube down to the control saying two of their scientists have discovered a critical environmental problem. He needs to run a Multiversal Computer Analysis on Mount Kamila to figure out if the mountain's snow pack is polluted. If it is, one of Earth's main sources of water will be unusable. Zark flies to his monitors, explaining in winter the snow falls on the mountain and in spring it melts forming rivers and streams. The water then drains to reservoirs (the hydrologic cycle). Zark is unhappy with what he sees and calls Chief Anderson informing him of the bad news.

Chief Anderson pulls the team into his office briefing them of the latest developments: Mount Kamila is covered with salt crystals. When the chief tells them that Spectra is behind it, Princess asks, "Again?" Tiny sits back, believing that salting a mountain is a "waste of time." Princess wants to know what Spectra hopes to gain. Keyop says, "Make ocean out of a mountain." Jason bops him on the head, "They couldn't do that." Chief Anderson interrupts, saying Keyop maybe on to Spectra's idea of using salt from the ocean to contaminate the snowpack. Princess agrees, noting Earth's water supply would be unfit to drink. Chief Anderson adds it could also lead to the "ruination" of all major farmland. Mark lays it out: without food or water, Earth would be forced to surrender. Jason becomes determined, "No way are we gonna sit back and let that happen to us!"

Chief Anderson moves on, briefing that Zark's "Solarcopic Range Finders" have pinpointed the Spectran activity near Mount Kamila. The chief sends them on their way to search out anything out the ordinary and wishes them luck.

The Phoenix arrives at Mount Kamila to try to save Earth's water. Without it, life couldn't exist. Tiny lands the Phoenix and the team disembarks with Keyop immediately playing in the snow. When he tastes a bit, he finds that it's salty. Tiny points to the summit, saying it must have worked its way down the mountain. Mark wonders how salt got up there in the first place. Princess offers Spectra dropping it from a space ship of some type. Mark agrees it's plausible. Jason wonders exactly what they're looking for and all Mark has is anything out of place. The commander then notices something amiss sticking out of the mountain and they check it out.

When the team closes in, they see a large metal spike. Mark wants Tiny to use his muscle but Tiny is unable to get the piece to budge. He tumbles backward and rolls up Keyop into a makeshift snowman! Mark decides to grab his jet and melt it out. Once the jet is in place, he fires the engines to eventually reveal a submarine-like craft! Tiny is baffled by the "wrecked ship," while Princess wonders how "a boat" landed on the side of a mountain. Jason adds, "Easy … Noah's Ark did it." Mark reveals the Spectran emblem and reports in. Zark orders them to collect samples and return to Center Neptune. Elsewhere, the captain of the mission discovers that G-Force has uncovered their wrecked ship.

At Center Neptune, Zark tells the chief and the team he's analyzed the pieces brought back. With thorough computer analyses, Zark has discovered some disturbing information. For one, Zoltar is not working alone in this endeavor and Spectra is in the process of polluting several systems' water with their "tight-knit" espionage network. The leader of the network is Barzok, who is the head of Spectra's "intergalactic slave system." Zark calls him a "dangerous character." He goes on to say they know of Spectra spy activity on Paradise Island asteroid and G-Force must go there to "locate" the network.

The Phoenix launches for Paradise Island and into the "wild black yonder." Zark puts them into Time Warp and back out again as they approach the asteroid. He orders them to split up and check out the resort area first. Mark covers the beach, Jason is at the airport and Princess is in downtown pretending to be a tourist. Chief Anderson tracks the team's movements at Center Neptune and he asks about Keyop and Tiny. Zark says they should be checking into the hotel at any minute.

Keyop and Tiny arrive at the hotel incognito with the bellhop welcoming them at the curb. The manager, who has a Hitler-type moustache, checks them into the best suite they have, which is a very large room. Tiny, in his role, informs the manager that "Dr. Keyopoff" is a famous entomologist from Earth interested in the insects of Paradise Island. Tiny nearly slips up by saying "spies" rather than specimens before asking the manager about a guide who knows Paradise Island well. The manager says they just hired a new guide who knows the ins and outs of the "planetoid" and says she is very pretty when Keyop asks. The manager runs out excitedly and Tiny slams the door as soon as he leaves.

A short time later, the manager returns with their guide while Keyop finishes a shower. The manager leads the guide in who tells the pair if they're interested in insects, she knows exactly where to take them. She leads Tiny to the docks where Tiny is practically on top of her due to being smitten with her. She stops suddenly and it takes everything Tiny has not to run her over. She points to an area, "Over there." Tiny pulls out a magnifying glass and finds "space ants" and they like salt. He tells the guide he's going to be a while and can meet him back in an hour. The guide nods and walks away. Tiny is all goofy when she leaves, even smashing his face into the magnifying glass after he runs into a metal roll shutter.

Act Two

Zark paces due to worry, to the point of having a burning sensation in his Pyrometer. He says he shouldn't worry about G-Force but he cares a great deal about them. 1-Rover-1 helicopters over to attempt to comfort Zark, who turns on his monitors. Zark says Tiny is the strongest of the team, but at the same time, he's the weakest when it comes to "pretty girls." He wonders if Tiny will be able to stay focused on business and whether that blonde guide will spell trouble.

Tiny follows the ants and realizes something strange is going on. He's in a warehouse where he's jumped by a pair of security guards, but he takes care of them in short order. Tiny wonders what they're so bothered by to warrant their actions, he then finds a huge vat full of salt. He jumps in and tastes it with no doubt left in his mind. However, the lid is lowered into place, trapping him inside! At the controls, the guide says, "That's one G-Force spy off our backs!" She walks away.

Keyop approaches the same building the guide just walked out of and calls to Tiny on the Wrist Communicators. Tiny explains that he's caught in "a salt shaker" but Keyop doesn't necessarily get the reference. Tiny tells Keyop to go after the guide and Keyop takes off. He follows the guide to a boat but there's a crewman on board that Keyop has to sneak by. Keyop throws a rock for a diversion and walks the rope to climb on board. Keyop takes a look around to see a spacious cabin with a clock reading "1:55." In the middle of the floor is a submarine door, which he opens.

Keyop climbs down a ladder into a base but barely stays out of sight as a Spectran goon meets the tiger-dressed captain. The goon reports they are ready to load the salt and the captain okays it. Keyop overhears the conversation and follows the captain where he meets with Barzok who tells the captain if they're successful, Earth will become a slave camp, he'll be the ruler of Spectra and the captain very rich. The captain likes how Barzok works because he's tired of the doing all the work while Zoltar catches all the glory. Keyop listens in only to have a gun shoved into his neck. The guide chuckles evilly saying they now have "number two." Keyop holds up his hands as Barzok relishes in his success.

Tiny is still trapped and desperately tries to contact Keyop but to no avail. Just when Tiny thinks it's bad, it gets worse as the salt is loaded into another vat and he along with it! With the salt loaded, the captain gets underway in his submarine base. Meanwhile, the Phoenix flies around Paradise Island now that Mark, Jason and Princess have met back up. Mark tries to contact Keyop who answers that he's in jail on the submarine. Mark tells him they're tracking the sub and to hang in there. Princess asks where Tiny is and Keyop answers, "Salt shaker." Mark thinks that's a pretty wild answer. Jason suggests Tiny's been caught up in the salt supply and it's been loaded onto the sub. Mark realizes if that's the case, Tiny "doesn't stand a chance." Princess says they have to rescue them and Jason agrees.

The Phoenix continues to follow the submarine with Princess watching the scope while Mark and Jason are at the lead console. The submarine arrives at the main Spectran base where the captain orders the sub to "surface and dock." Jason takes the Phoenix closer while Princess says she lost the sub "behind that steel door." Jason believes they found the secret base and Mark says now all they have to do is figure out a way in.

Inside the base, salt bags are being loaded onto the Spectran ships. An alarm blares with a goon reporting an unidentified craft approaching. Barzok orders the ship eliminated but the guide says she'll be giving the orders from now on! She explains that he has outlived his usefulness to Spectra. She then tells the captain to bring "the puny spy" she captured, so they can use him to bait the rest of G-Force. Barzok questions the guide's intentions until it's revealed to actually be Zoltar! He knows what Barzok's plan was – to replace him as ruler of Spectra! Barzok back-pedals and pleads for his life but Zoltar considers Barzok "nothing."

The captain goes to the cell to retrieve Keyop wearing a gas mask because the compartment has been flooded. However, Keyop is ready, due to transmuting into his G-Force uniform. He throws his bolos at the captain, knocking him out. Keyop makes a run for it while two goons check out the salt vat that has also been gassed. Tiny takes them by surprise, also in birdstyle. Tiny has to take care of several other goons and Keyop does the same. They pair back into each other pausing momentarily until they realize who each other is. Keyop jumps into Tiny's arms giving him a big hug.

Zoltar orders the launching of the ship including activating the Electron Thrusters. However, his plans are rudely interrupted. The Phoenix slam-jams its way into the base! The ship keeps going landing on the sub and literally knocking Zoltar down off his pedestal onto the lower level between two goons. Meantime, Keyop and Tiny find their way to the top and hitch a ride aboard the Phoenix.

Zoltar orders his ship to take off and the Phoenix slides off the sub. On board the Phoenix, Jason moves to a back seat so Tiny can pilot the ship. The team takes off following Zoltar's ship and it fires a pair of rockets at them. Tiny's swift moves allow the rockets to miss the Phoenix but they hit the Spectran base! They regroup and continue following Zoltar's ship, which is moving slower than normal to the surprise of the team. Mark notes they must be overloaded while Zoltar says they're carrying too much salt. He wants a proper reading but it's impossible because "the needle has completely flipped." Zoltar wants to outrun G-Force but knows it's not likely. He orders evasive actions, the salt jettisoned and the crew to go to the escape hatches.

On the Phoenix, they watch as the load is lightened and Princess is the first to notice. Jason wonders if they're in range yet and Tiny says soon but they're "picking up speed." Mark orders the Cybernetic Rockets launched against the ship and Jason gladly obliges, "Outta sight!" The ship is destroyed yet Zoltar is able to escape yet again!

After the mission, Tiny slams the console saying he's "a dumb spy." He explains to the others that the blonde guide "really turned me on" only to discover later it was Zoltar in disguise! Mark cracks, "Those outer space romances never last." The Phoenix heads for home while Zark says Tiny shouldn't feel too bad, after all, Zoltar is one of wiliest of villains. On the bright side, it's because of Tiny that Spectra's spy network has been foiled on Paradise Island.

Zark rides the vacuum tube to his Ready Room saying G-Force is about halfway home by now. He's taking a ten second oil break to rest his Tired Transistors. He receives a call and knows there's no real rest. Besides, the call couldn't be for Rover – only it is! A robot dog is calling for Rover. Zark forgets that Rover has all those friends on Sirius – the Dog Star.

Yes, that's correct. But Bobkat has been using the production numbers for her synopses. :-)
