BotP Close-up 087

Post: # 673Post Bobkat »

This week is a very cool ep! We see more dynamics within the team when "Cupid Does it to Keyop". We see how independent the teammates are but how protective the older kids are to the smallest member of G-Force.

I've seen the original and the GoS version of this ep but this is a perfect example of how Battle did it better! :) The best part is the hospital. Where the other versions beat us over the head about keeping the team's secret, in Battle, it's about Keyop. His teammates know his heart is broken after Julie tells him her family is moving to Andromeda, no matter how much Keyop tries to hide it. Good job, G-Force! :D Enjoy this week's plot. :)

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep87.html

E87: Cupid Does it to Keyop

Act One

7-Zark-7's attention is constantly on the happenings inside the security perimeters. The perimeters, according to Cosmic Manual 8B, include the entire universe. Zark is at his monitors while 1-Rover-1 sits nearby. Zark says he's responsible for keeping Earth safe from alien invaders from all of outer space. He calls it "Maximus Longorum," or "Far Out." Rover yips because he's hungry again, but Zark can't believe it. There is a nice bowl of crunchy nuts and bolts out covered in oil gravy. Zark watches Rover, "Get fat." But Rover is a small worry compared to everything else, just like Keyop. Zark explains G-Force is on a few days vacation in a "distant mountain city" and Keyop is out exploring in his Space Bubble over unfamiliar territory. Zark calls Keyop "impulsive" and the world is "his oyster" while Zark tries to keep him out of "oyster stew. The robot wonders if he just made a witty quip and wishes he was programmed for humor to appreciate the joke.

Keyop is out flying in his Space Bubble but not seeing anything new until he comes up on a old castle in the middle of nowhere. He zooms in on a young gorgeous girl sunbathing on the deck. An older man walks out and notices Keyop's ship circle back around. When Keyop returns, the girl is gone. However, Keyop daydreams about her.

Later at a snack bar, the team is relaxing while the news airs a report about "Julie Leslie" whose father represents Earth in the Intergalactic Federation. Her family remains in seclusion and refuses to speak to the press. The speculation is that Julie is being held by Spectra due to her father's high position. It is believed that Spectra will try to use her to leverage against the Federation to gain a seat. The report eventually shows a picture of Julie and Keyop recognizes her immediately – she was the girl sunbathing on the deck! Tiny can't believe it saying Keyop is living in "a dream world" and Princess is skeptical too. If she's kidnapped, why was she in a bikini on the deck? Keyop decides he's had enough and leaves. As he does so, Princess tells him to be careful.

At the castle, Keyop sneaks around and climbs up to Julie's window where she's just closed the curtains. As he scrambles onto the balcony, Keyop knocks off a potted plant that hits a guy on the head just as he turns the corner with his gun drawn. Julie was in the process of taking a shower and she walks out with a towel wrapped around her to see what all the noise is about. Julie sees Keyop on the balcony and throws a shoe at him. She begins chewing him out about peeking into windows but Keyop tries to quiet her so he can explain he's there to rescue her. He keeps his eyes closed for the most part telling her that he knows who she is. Julie asks if it's been in the newspapers because she hasn't been allowed to see any. She then asks if Keyop can help her out.

A guy with a gun bangs on the door yelling at Julie and asking if someone is with her. He breaks in only to be taken down by Keyop and impressing Julie who says Keyop's pretty strong for someone so small. Keyop tells her it's "solid muscle" and turns around to let her dress. A short time later, Keyop is climbing back down the way he climbed up with Julie piggy-backing but a vine breaks on the way down. Keyop lands on his feet but Julie lands hard and is twists her ankle.

Another guy smoking a pipe roams the grounds with his gun drawn and finds the pair. Keyop holds up his hands and walks to the guy who tells Keyop to keep his hands up. Keyop kicks dirt into the guy's face causing him to fall at Julie's feet. She's never seen anything like that and is very grateful to Keyop. She kisses him on the cheek making him blush and he daydreams for a bit. He comes back to reality saying they need to get her home.

That night, Julie is reunited with her parents under the glare of the press. Meanwhile, the kidnappers are at the police station to answer questions. They're not being cooperative and the two officers questioning them report as much to their 'captain.' The captain, to the surprise of his officers, tells them to leave the suspects with him alone for a few minutes. It turns out, the captain is an imposter working for Spectra! The guy who was chomping on the pipe earlier says everything is working out fine but the imposter captain says it's not because they allowed the girl to get away!

Later, Zoltar contacts the captain through a 'Mona Lisa' painting. Zoltar isn't happy about Julie slipping away but the captain assures Zoltar that he has it figured out. Zoltar is intrigued especially since it involves the smallest G-Force member. The captain explains the two kids should be receiving letters soon that will lead them into a trap.

At the snack bar, Keyop sees Julie's picture in the newspaper with her father. Keyop has been smitten with puppy love for Julie and is sure he'll never see her again. He begins kissing the newspaper as he flashes back to her in a bikini on the deck, her face in a star field, and when she kissed him. She stands before him in the snack bar and he runs to her but it is actually Princess! When Keyop tries to jump onto her, Princess tosses him to the floor saying, "You've flipped!" Keyop picks himself off the floor and says dejectedly, "Not Julie." Princess tells Keyop he needs to get it together because he's not himself. She calls it the "Worst case I've ever seen."

The door to the snack bar opens with the breeze tossing Princess' hair. She goes to investigate since no one walked in. She walks to the street and sees no one but could have swore someone was there. She notices the letter in the mailbox and takes it in inside. The pipe chomper guy is in the alley nearby making certain the letter was delivered. He reports to the captain that everything is good to go.

Keyop is overjoyed to receive the letter – it's from Julie! Princess stands behind him and Keyop puts the letter down chewing her out for invading his privacy! Princess walks away and out of the room before Keyop starts reading. Julie writes that she's very grateful and wants to see Keyop again. She wants him to meet her at the "Fun World Amusement Park today."

Keyop shows up, hiding his dune buggy in the bushes. Keyop walks through the front gate but the clerk there works for Zoltar! He radios that Keyop has arrived and "now that both of them are here, I've locked up tight!" Zoltar is pleased with the progress of the plan as the captain stands beside him in a tower in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, Julie and Keyop meet up with Keyop nearly falling over himself before regaining his composure. She tells him thank you for the romantic letter he wrote. He's blushing and tells her she's welcome when he asks, "What letter?" Julie moves next to him saying there's nothing to be embarrassed about because it's the nicest letter she's ever received. Keyop doesn't know what to do when she asks if he really thinks she's "beautiful." Keyop asks if he really said that. Julie also says her parents don't know she's there since they're all worried about her since her kidnapping. Suddenly, Keyop realizes they've been set up – there is no one at the amusement park! Keyop says something "funny" is going on. "Don't like it!"

Act Two

Zark paces in the control room lamenting about upgrades maintenance has wanted to complete. He's refused to have two more arms and four more hands installed because he feels it would make him appear "so mechanical." Even though vain, he likes the way he was put together. As Zark flies to his monitors, he considers the advantages of the upgrades such as keeping an eye on Zoltar while also keeping track of Keyop. The latter has been "walking into walls" since he met Julie.

From the Fun World tower, Zoltar and the captain watch as Keyop and Julie try to run out. Zoltar is clear: he doesn't want the rest of G-Force to show up. He has other plans for them. Meanwhile at the snack bar, Mark asks if anyone has seen Keyop. Princess tells her teammates that Keyop received a letter from Julie Leslie and she wanted to meet him at Fun World. Tiny wonders why she would want to meet Keyop there. Jason asks Princess if Keyop told her but she admits she looked over his shoulder at the letter. Mark doesn't like it noting that the park is closed for repairs. Jason backs him because a phone call would be far easier. A bunch of racket outside interrupts and it's a lobster shaped mech terrorizing the city! The team runs out and into action to take on the mech.

The mech tears up a bunch of stuff while the team transmutes and gathers on the Phoenix. Mark docks his jet, Princess is picked up and parks on her ramp with Jason being hauled in with grapples. After the Phoenix shows up, the mech gives chase while Mark tells Princess to contact Keyop once more. She tries with no success and considers it "a lost cause." Jason isn't happy saying no matter where Keyop is, he should answer his G-Force radio.

At Fun World, a bunch of police cars show up and goons exit in trying to capture Keyop and Julie. He takes her to a roller coaster where she tells him that she's scared. They watch the goons spread out on the ground. However, one of the main guys pulls the lever to start up the roller coaster! Keyop realizes he and Julie are in trouble and looks to try to transmute until he sees Zoltar in the tower. He yells for them to stop it and tries to think of a way out. As the coaster closes in, Keyop grabs Julie and tells to "Hold tight." He leaps and takes her with him from a great height. They land on a giant umbrella and bounce out of sight of Zoltar, the captain and the goons.

Zoltar is quite pleased with the outcome so far and says all they need is "cotton candy." He orders the goons to chase down Keyop and Julie who escape into a glass tower. Zoltar is tired of the games and orders the activation of "the caterpillar ride." The police cars are joined up and transform into a giant caterpillar mech. It wreaks havoc in park into breaking glass into every direction. A large chard hits Julie in the head, knocking her out. Keyop catches her before she falls down completely. The caterpillar is extremely interested in where Keyop and Julie are in the tower.

Elsewhere, the Phoenix was able to lure the Lobster mech out of the city and into the ocean. However, the rest of the team has to evade a slew of missiles attacking. No matter what they do – going up or down – the missiles follow. They're eventually caught up in mechanical kelp and they have to use a turbo booster in order to break free. They escape just in time to prevent a head-on collison with the Lobster mech.

Once in the air, Mark orders Princess to locate Keyop through the Visualizer. She works on it, trying to find their wayward teammate. While the caterpillar tries to figure out how to get to Keyop and Julie, Keyop knows he's running out of options just as the Phoenix appears. Keyop is beyond relieved his teammates have arrived to help. Tiny buzzes both the caterpillar and the tower where Zoltar and the captain sit shattering glass as he goes.

On board the Phoenix, Tiny is hopeful their plan will work. Mark explains if they use the dummy dressed like Keyop, Zoltar may think he has the wrong boy in the tower and it's a good way to get Keyop's uniform to him without being obvious. Zoltar figures the team will do whatever is necessary to retrieve Keyop, including bending to Zoltar's will. They team flies near Zoltar as the captain tells him they have the upper hand but confusion soon follows because there are four team members in the bubble, not three! Zoltar becomes angry especially when Mark taunts him, "What little friend, Zoltar? Looks like you finally flipped out all the way. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!" Zoltar asks the captain about it, but the captain has no answers. Mark tells Princess to deliver Keyop and she answers, "Big Ten!" The dummy crashes into the tower and Keyop grabs it as the Phoenix circles around dodging bullets from the caterpillar.

Keyop transmutes in secret while the Phoenix takes on the caterpillar. The mech tries some dodgy stuff as Zoltar doesn't want the plane to get away. Meantime, Keyop has managed to make it to his Space Bubble and approaches the Phoenix. Jason tells Tiny to prep for a pick up as they continue to evade the caterpillar. Keyop makes it on board with Julie and Jason is super excited to see him.

In the observation tower, Zoltar wants something competent from the captain. The captain presses the button to make their escape while the team watches. Tiny tells the rocket to keep going and not come back – they never want to see Zoltar again. Keyop chirps from behind as Julie sits unconscious in his seat. The entire team looks back as Keyop says, "Hospital." Mark assures him that they're on the way and Julie will be fine – a little rest, "she'll be as good as new." Keyop looks down wishing her to get better.

At the hospital, Julie is so happy to see Keyop on a visit. He's seen her everyday and she tells him that he'll one of her best friends forever. She's bummed that her father has been transferred all the way to Andromeda Galaxy. She dreams that someday they'll meet again. As Keyop leaves, she calls out, "Remember me." Keyop closes the door and nearly loses it emotionally thinking he can never forget her. As he walks down the hall, the rest of G-Force waits for him and Princess calls to him. He blows it off as "nothing" but they know better. Mark tells him that sometimes things don't work out the way we want and says if it makes him feel better, they were all pulling for him. Keyop pretends to be okay, even jumping up a bit, but it's all an act. Once around the corner, Keyop nearly cries because he'll miss Julie terribly. Later, Keyop sits on a bridge watching the sunset while Zark says perhaps someday Keyop and Julie may meet again.

Zark says parting "like this" is so difficult for humans. He is in his Ready Room and knows he's fortunate to be a robot that feels no attachment. Susan calls saying she's a robot and wonders if they feel any attachment to each other. Zark laughs, she has a point. But how many other compatible robots do they know!?
