BotP Close-up 100

Post: # 739Post Bobkat »

Hello, again! And you thought the leading zeros meant nothing!!

This week is an out-there affair with "G-Force in the Future"!! :o How is it possible!? Can it actually happen!?

Mark is thoroughly confused when he wakes up in a strange place. He isn't alone, as the man he was tasked to escort, Dr. Gorki, is still with the commander. The last they knew they were on an old airplane scouting locations for "Future World." Dr. Gorki designed the city but Zoltar and Spectra want to get their grubby paws on the plans!

Zoltar and his goons are particularly sneaky in this ep, going so far as creating a grown-up Keyop!! :o Mark is not impressed by this young man, especially since he toasts their "hosts" and victors in the war. But leave it to our best commander to start snooping around to discover the massive cover-up. He sends out a signal and the calvary charges in. :)

Zoltar is defeated once again and Dr. Gorki buries the plans for Future World until mankind is ready for it.

This ep gives so many ideas, but even with the guy being a "fake Keyop," we get a glimpse as to how the smallest member could look as he ages. :) This ep is also proof, these kids don't do so hot thinking they're alone. :)

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep100.html

In the meantime, enjoy the 84th of 85 plots: "G-Force in the Future"!! :) You'll notice there's a different break up with the Acts. The reason for this is that there was a hard break after (warning: spoiler!) the airplane falls through the ice. I did the best I could with what I had. Enjoy!! :)

E100: G-Force in the Future

Act One

7-Zark-7 says there is never a dull moment in Center Neptune, especially if you’re the lead robot, which Zark is. 1-Rover-1 yips at him because he's hungry again, despite having a big bowl of iron filings. It's not that, Rover is worried about a new, big thing called Future World powered by geothermal energy. He tells Rover not to let it upset him and Zark flies to his monitors. Rover joins him by helicoptering over with his tail. Zark explains he has to stay alert in the here and now for Spectra and their evil plans. Otherwise, they may never get to Future World. Zark says G-Force is meeting with Chief Anderson and other scientists now to figure out the best location for Future World. He wonders if robots will be obsolete in Future World and go back to only using humans. Rover doesn't like the sound of that at all and rolls on the floor. Zark calls that a "foolish" step.

In the security office, Chief Anderson briefs Disaster Planning Commission has chosen the Arctic as the most feasible place to put Future World. He tells the team the key is the "Gorki Formula" while showing various slides of Earth. The idea is to tap the molten core to provide energy to Future World. The next slide Chief Anderson shows is of Dr. Gorki who is the architect of Future World. The chief says he's eccentric but he's "definitely a genius." He's going to survey the Arctic location and has refused all security. Princess points out that people travel all the time without security with Mark wondering why they're being called in. Chief Anderson explains Dr. Gorki is running around with the formula in his head. He goes on to say they've checked him out and he's clean – to a point. The man had radical ideas. Mark stops the chief noting he just called Dr. Gorki a genius. Chief Anderson says he doesn't deal in ideologies, "just security" and why Mark is going with Dr. Gorki!

The chief goes to a map and points to an area where there has been some mysterious activity. So far, Security hasn't been able to come up with the cause of the activity. Chief Anderson tells the team the rest of them will be flying "shotgun in the Phoenix, discreetly, of course." The team salutes, chants "G-Force!" and are on the way.

A four-engine passenger jet flies to the Arctic Region – Zark calls it a "vintage propeller driven airplane from the 20th century." Zark says it's a DC-5 (it is not, it looks more like a BAE-146 four engine jet). The plane hung in the Museum of Primitive Aircraft. The Phoenix flies just above Dr. Gorki's plane during the trip. On board the jet, Mark checks out Dr. Gorki's equipment on a lower deck but this might not be a good idea since Dr. Gorki was quite secretive about it. Mark says it looks like a "cryogenic casket." Mark returns to his seat by Dr. Gorki where the doctor voices his displeasure about Mark "poking around" hi equipment and checking up on him. Mark explains Security is concerned someone will try to stop him from arriving at the Future World site. Dr. Gorki doesn't believe him despite Mark trying to reassure him that Mark isn't "checking up."

The airplane begins to wobble and Mark rushes to the cockpit after telling Dr. Gorki to "buckle up." Dr. Gorki tells Mark to be careful as the commander runs up front and he fastens his seatbelt. Mark actually slides to the cockpit door and enters. The pilot informs him they're in trouble. Mark pries open a panel hosing the throttles to discover the holding pin has worked its way loose to the point it's gone! The pilot tries to keep the airplane in the air but the pilot is sure the "museum piece" has had it. Mark isn't willing to give so easily, pulling out the flight manual and finds a paperclip. He studies the clip and is sure it'll work. Mark struggles to insert it but is successful. The pilot tests it and it works! However, they have a big mountain filling their window! The pilot orders his First Officer, Tad, to give the airplane more flaps. The First Officer is able to wrestle the airplane out of harm's way, but barely! The pilot warns of a rough landing as they lower the landing gear.

Mark returns to Dr. Gorki telling him they're about to make an emergency landing. Dr. Gorki isn't happy wanting Mark to stay within his site and not pull any funny stuff. Mark is less than pleased about Dr. Gorki's paranoia. Dr. Gorki says he'll reveal the secret power formula when he's ready and not a moment before. On the ground, the airplane lands and stops when it hits a snow berm. On board the Phoenix, Princess reports the airplane has landed and Jason immediately knows something is wrong – it's not the designated landing area. He orders, "Check it, Tiny." Tiny moves the Phoenix down to where the airplane is.

Dr. Gorki suits up to check outside and carries a recorder to let him know if anyone messes with his equipment. Just as he is about to open the door, the airplane begins shaking and Mark wonders, "Now what!?" A chasm opens under the airplane and the crew is helpless to stop anything from happening. As well, G-Force can only watch from the Phoenix as the airplane falls in, breaking its wings on the way in. Once it hits the water, the chasm closes and the team watches in horror. Keyop caps it, "Mark's gone." Mark looks up in time to see an iceberg crush its way into the plane.

Act One point Two

Zark is at his monitors calling out to Mark, hoping to make contact but receives nothing in return. Zark says the situation is "terrible," drooping his antennae – the airplane carrying Mark and Dr. Gorki has disappeared into a large crevasse. Zark worries if Spectra is behind it and they manage to get a hold of Dr. Gorki's formula, well, look out. The robot tries to contact Mark again.

Some psychedelic crap happens before Mark opens his eyes. He sits up, still in his G-Force uniform, completely disoriented. He's in a bed with Dr. Gorki in a glass walled room. Outside is a thriving city and Dr. Gorki awakes a moment later. Dr. Gorki is amazed – the city is Future World! If it is Future World, Mark wonders if they've gone through some sort of Time Warp. Dr. Gorki is amazed, calling Future World "a dream." Mark counters, "A bad dream." Mark says someone put them in the room and just then a lift lowers them into yet another room. On the way down, Dr. Gorki looks over the city saying it's "incredible" as it is exactly as he designed it.

The lift stops and the two men jump off. They begin exploring and run across several residents who Mark calls "a welcoming party" with Dr. Gorki noting, "There's not a happy face among them." The crowd closes in with Dr. Gorki stating this isn't the Future World he had in mind. The pair takes off running and bump into yet more unhappy citizens. They take off again, only to go into a dead end. A glass wall closes between them and the mob while another wall opens. A man standing there tells them the people are "harmless." He introduces himself as Koda and welcomes them to Future World, especially "Commander." Mark asks who the people are before Koda steps beside him. Koda orders the people back to their quarters and explains they are survivors of the great Spectran invasion. Mark and Dr. Gorki are both surprised – "what Spectran invasion." Koda goes on to say it occurred "almost 50 years ago." He explains Zoltar and his invaders plundered and destroyed "all the great cities." He says, "All but one of your companions" were killed and Center Neptune was destroyed. Mark freaks out calling Koda a liar and it's all a "nightmare."

To prove he's telling the truth, Koda offers to give the men a tour. They board a craft where Koda says all that is left of Earth is Future World. His assistant asks them to sit and the vehicle moves forward. Once in a metal shaft, the craft flies upward where they see a ruined city below them – the city "you lived in." Mark is floored and Dr. Gorki doesn't understand why the city wasn't rebuilt. Koda tells them deadly radiation was left over, perhaps Zoltar's plans were to leave Earth a wasteland. Koda says he and the other survivors are grateful because they now live in Future World, which was built on Dr. Gorki's plan. They arrive at the Federation Building but it's in ruins.

As they go on, Mark wonders aloud if they're so far in the future, why didn't they age? Koda speculates they were put in some sort of suspended animation. The airplane and those on board were "entombed in ice." Koda and his people revived them but Dr. Gorki is skeptical – remaining silent and looking out the window.

The craft then goes underwater to a place "where Center Neptune" once stood. Mark is in shock but he's in for another shock – the graves of his teammates! He's heartbroken seeing Jason, Princess and Tiny's graves.

Act Two

Zark paces in the control room trying to get a saying down: his heart is in his mouth. But he fails. He's freaking out – his Binac (heart) is where is Radac (mouth) should be. Zark has been a computerized wreck since the airplane carrying Mark and Dr. Gorki disappeared under the ice. Even the robot wonders if they've vanished into another world or another time. Zark wonders if Dr. Gorki has spirited Mark away to Future World, but it's impossible – Future World hasn't been created yet! Zark has a feeling deep in his Filament Fiber that the pair are in great danger and he must establish contact with them. Somehow, he manages to get Saturn on his monitor but he doesn't want Saturn at the moment. Zark keeps tuning, even if he has to settle for sound without video.

On board the craft, Koda tries to comfort Mark but he squarely blames Dr. Gorki. Mark is extremely unhappy. The craft returns to Future World where the group is dropped off. Here, Koda and his assistant show Mark video of an elderly man plucking a flower apart. They claim he's Chief Anderson! Mark can't believe that the chief survived but his teammates didn't. They show him the graves again – three crosses in a barren field. Mark walks away from the video screen when Dr. Gorki asks who rules Future World. Koda tells the doctor he does, under the direction of Spectra. This statement gains Mark's attention as Koda explains they are "a conquered people" and are Zoltar's subjects. Mark is frustrated beyond anything, balling his fists and saying, "Zoltar won after all." Koda tells him at least they're alive and that's what counts. Mark says this isn't being alive! Koda goes on to say his "companions" said the same, except one. They believed he deserted them!

Koda says when the invasion started, they all went bravely to their deaths. A door opens revealing the last survivor of the team – "little Keyop." An older boy in an Army-looking uniform steps into the room. Mark is beyond floored while he steps around Koda. 'Keyop' greets him saying it's good to see him. Mark doesn't know what to believe. 'Keyop' runs to him and hugs him – he thought Mark was gone "like the others." One of the things Mark notices right away is that Keyop doesn't talk like he used to. 'Keyop' explains that he "grew up" and tells "Commander" to relax because they have a lot to discuss. The man holds a ring up to an electric eye, making a table rise from the floor. Another panel provides a tray with four cups on it for a "strong, Saturnian coffee" service. 'Keyop' places it on the table as Koda dismisses his assistant.

Mark, Dr. Gorki, Koda and 'Keyop' sit at the table where 'Keyop' toasts their "brave new world" even if it's under Spectra. Mark stands, taking enough! He argues that the Keyop he knew would never make a toast to Zoltar and "would have died first, just like Princess, Tiny and Jason did!" Mark slams his fist onto the table, breaking one of his cup and saucer. 'Keyop' stands up to defend himself, arguing about who the real traitor is! He accuses "Commander" of abandoning the team. Dr. Gorki remains seated, stating the accusations and counter accusations are pointless. He tells the group he's too old and tired to fight Spectra. He then asks Koda what they can do to help. Koda quickly answers they need Dr. Gorki's energy formula. The doctor agrees that his formula to tap Earth's core could help free Future World.

Dr. Gorki tells Koda his formula is on board the airplane and he must activate his equipment first. Mark accompanies the doctor on board, urging him not to cooperate. Mark whispers to Dr. Gorki he doesn't trust Koda or 'Keyop.' Dr. Gorki has no intention of turning over anything and asks Mark to "play along with me." Mark agrees. Dr. Gorki explans to Koda and 'Keyop' he has to check things with his Quantum Thermo-meter first. He hands the control to 'Keyop' instructing him to turn the activator on once Dr. Gorki steps inside. 'Keyop' warns him to "don't try any tricks, doctor" which seems quite aggressive. Dr. Gorki steps inside his machine and closes the door.

Mark, meanwhile, walks to the airplane controls where he finds the paper clip he used to pin the throttle. There isn't a speck of rust on it! Dr. Gorki runs through his machine but nothing of fruition is gained! He steps out with Koda realizing they've been tricked! Mark returns from the cockpit, laughing – the ruse has failed! Mark runs it down: the Spectra invasion, Future World, the story of them being entombed in ice. Mark flicks the paperclip up telling Koda, "You forgot this!"

Koda reveals himself as being Zoltar! Zoltar tells Mark that without the others, he's helpless! The 'survivors' run and change into green uniforms – they're Zoltar's men! One of the goons opens the door on Zoltar's orders only to be punched by Jason who says, "Make way for G-Force!" The goon starts mumbling, "Zoltar was a little lamb, his fleece was black as …" before falling over. The team is revealed in the shadows! Zoltar wonders where they came from and Mark holds up his bracelet with the Crosshatch signal flashing! Mark says, "So much for Future World, Zoltar!"

The team engages the goons and Mark tells Jason, "Let's take 'em, Jason." Mark taps Jason on the shoulder before taking off and Jason gets suckered punched! Jason smacks the goon before body slamming him! Keyop takes on "phony Keyop" and punches him. Zoltar makes a break for it and Mark gives chase. He actually catches up and they fall out of a window on the plane! When they land, Mark flies up and takes out several goons while the team flies down to help. One of the guys fights several before Tiny sends one flying into another group. Jason kicks a 55-gallon drum towards more goons spilling a flammable liquid along the way. Mark makes another fire into the fuel and a fire starts! It becomes so bad, someone orders "Retreat!"

Zoltar continues to run with Mark and Princess leading the team to try to catch him! However, Zoltar makes it to his escape craft warning the team they will meet again! When Zoltar takes off, Keyop notices that they're surrounded by a giant screen. Dr. Gorki verifies this by flipping a toggle switch. Dr. Gorki explains their "clever" plan and his suspicions. He felt no real motion in the craft they were on. The doctor says it was possible they could have been frozen, but unlikely. This is when Mark notices the countdown clock and they run for the Phoenix!

Tiny lifts the Phoenix off and into a shaft, he says there's an escape hatch ahead somewhere. Tiny is able to fly the Phoenix out and away prior to the base exploding! It takes the screen, images of Future World and the antique plane with it. As the base continues to explode, mark laments about Dr. Gorki's formula going up in a ball of fire. The doctor pulls fibers from his hair that is actually microfilm. He places them into a device and starts it up. The device burrows deep into the Earth because Dr. Gorki realizes mankind isn't ready for his formula just yet. Mark still isn't quite sure about tapping the Earth's core but someday, perhaps. The Phoenix flies home under the Aurora Borealis with Zark noting the G-force commander was nearly fooled by Zoltar.

At Center Neptune, Zark is enjoying an oil shower. He likes that the shower helps ease the tension "after an experience like that." As Zark wraps his towel, he tells Rover that Zoltar really goofed in his Future World – there wasn't a single robot! Zark says a robot wouldn't forget a detail like that, "A robot doesn't forget anything!" Susan calls telling him he forgot to turn off his monitor while he took his shower! Zark pulls up his towel in embarrassment.
