BotP Close-up 018

Post: # 378Post Bobkat »

This week will be a bit different - two plots are going to be posted due to my limited internet access next week.

First up is Nambu the baby whale. :) Enjoy!

The Other Jason's write-up is here: https://www.battleoftheplanets.info/ep18.html

E18: A Whale Joins G-Force

Act One

7-Zark-7 is having a pleasant evening because it's a calm night. However, long range probes alerts on something heading for Bay City on Earth. Zark is in his helmet and flies to his monitors. Bay City is the main storage facility for marine fuel and is in the path of migrating whales. Zark checks his "long-range video sample" to double check what the probes picked up. All appears "quiet and serene" at Bay City at night. Zark issues a Red Alert to evacuate the city.

A mech in the water attacks some storage tanks and a bridge in Bay City before driving out to sea. Mark flies over Bay City in his plane to survey what's going on. Zark mentions that communications suddenly cut off as Mark closes in on the city. The harbor is in dire straits when a massive explosion occurs. Mark calls it, "a wipeout." Zark contacts Mark to inform him that a giant whale caused the explosions, but Mark doesn't believe him. Whales don't attack cities or harbors. Zark tells Mark to contact G-Force and meet on the Phoenix.

Mark transmutes and the team joins up with Mark being the last to dock. The team goes out to figure out what really happened. Keyop is worried they're going whale hunting but Mark assures him they're not going to shoot any whales while he's in command. Jason adds that hundreds of witnesses confirm a whale attacked the city. Princess backs him up on the witness reports.

G-Force catches up with a pod of migrating whales heading north to their feeding grounds. Mark and Tiny are certain there's no giant whales in the pod but Mark wants to take a closer look. Princess notes the whales stay in perfect formation while Jason reminds them the ocean is pretty big and the giant whale they're seeking could still be out there. Mark also reminds them that whales play a huge ecological role in ocean life. Zark hopes that G-Force can prove the whales had nothing to do with the attack on Bay City.

As the Phoenix flies along, Jason spots something on the horizon but can't quite make it out. It's the giant mechanical whale! Mark verifies that's what they've been looking for. The mech shoots a pair of missiles at the Phoenix that Tiny dodges. The situation gets worse as the whale pod confronts the mech and loses. The pod is decimated leaving a baby whale orphaned. The team readies to give chase of the mech with Mark ordering Tiny to dive the Phoenix into the ocean. However, Keyop is worried about the baby whale as a pod of "killer sharks" (they're actually Orcas) move in to take out the baby. Tiny says the baby doesn't stand a chance. Jason and Keyop debate about whether to help the baby or not – Jason tells Keyop they can't let the mech get away. Before anyone can stop him, Keyop takes matters into his own hands and goes to his buggy to save the baby whale. Mark and Jason acknowledge that Keyop is unstoppable when he sets his mind to do something.

Keyop follows the orcas and buzzes them. He eventually catches them with one jumping up to take him out but it's shot from the Phoenix. The team has followed Keyop on his errand of mercy. Afterward, the team heads back to base with Keyop and the baby whale riding in the bubble filled with enough water to sustain the baby whale. Keyop has named the baby "Nambu" while en route to speak to Chief Anderson.

In Chief Anderson's office, he doesn't mince words: Spectra's new weapons threaten every whale in the ocean. The idea is to disrupt the delicate balance of "the mother sea." If the whales are wiped out, all life on Earth will suffer. Chief Anderson also tells them that Zark was able to communicate with Nambu via the inter-species translator. Nambu has agreed to help them stop the mechanical threat and to find Spectra's base. Mark is skeptical because Nambu is a baby and doesn't stand much of a chance against the natural ocean let alone Spectra. The chief admits the whole idea "is a long shot" but feels this is their best chance to defeat Spectra. Keyop wants G-Force to help and the chief concurs. He explains that Nambu has be fitted with a signaling device that can be tracked via a small sonar screen. Chief Anderson shows them the signal in his office before the team departs for the Arctic, which is where the mechs were last heading.

The team runs for the Phoenix and launches from Center Neptune. All eyes are keeping a lookout for Nambu signal as the baby whale swims under the ice floes.

Act Two

Zark is still in his helmet at his monitors. He's been following Nambu's progress but the signal seems to have stopped moving. Zark wipes down a monitor only to find it was "a blob of dust." He's worried about Nambu being so young and explains that whales are like humans in that they live in families, play and care for one another during tough times. Zark picks up the signal again but Nambu seems to be in an icy strait and may have trouble surfacing for air.

The Phoenix continues to follow Nambu who seems to be circling. Mark notices the motion but Jason verifies he's receiving another sonar signal, possibly the Spectran base. Mark orders Tiny to land and he does that. Jason suggests they should check it out. Mark and Jason will scout out what is what while Princess and Keyop standby. Keyop wants to go to help Nambu but Princess reminds him that Mark is in command.

Mark and Jason fly out from the Phoenix and run to a guard shack on the ice. They hide behind a snow berm to see a radar antenna in action. When the boys approach, the guards are ready with loaded 9mm handguns. Jason disarms them both with his feather weapons and the guards take off "awfully fast." Mark verifies they're Spectra while Jason notes the shack is only a tacking station and not the main base. Mark calls Princess and Keyop to meet them in the shack. Before he leaves, Keyop tells Tiny to "be cool." Tiny stands by in the pilot's seat.

Nambu surfaces inside the Spectran base where many "whale subs" are lined and ready to be loaded with armament. Crab robots load the subs with atomic torpedoes as Nambu watches. The captain of the base has a bluish skeleton mask.

At the tracking station, Princess readies the equipment to find Nambu's signal with Mark wondering if it'll work inside the building. Princess tells them the equipment works and that they're "right over Nambu." Jason readies his own stuff to make a hole n the floor. Keyop shoves a rocket drill into the dirt and while he gets dumped on, even after Jason's warning, Mark maintains a lookout. The rocket drill keeps going until it stops. It completely breaks through into the underground Spectrann base and makes a hole big enough for the G-Force members to fly through. They land above the whale subs.

The captain reports to Zoltar that the subs are loaded and ready to go. Zoltar tells Skuldoon good job and that soon there will be no whales left in Earth's oceans. Meanwhile, G-Force hatches a plan with electronic darts to "break up this little party." The four split up and dart the whale subs, computer equipment and crab robots.

As Keyop goes to plant a dart, he drops one gaining the attention of a green goon. When the goon is about to discover Keyop, Nambu splashes some water diverting the goon's attention. The goon is about to blow off Nambu until he sees the signaling device on Nambu's head. When the goon pulls a gun, Keyop reveals himself throwing his bolos at the goon. The jig is up and G-Force is discovered! Zoltar orders his men to get them and a fight ensues with all of G-Force involved. Keyop tries to tell Nambu to esape but the baby whale sticks around. Keyop refuses to leave Nambu's side. Mark and Jason fight back-to-back. Zoltar tells Skuldoon to launch immediately because if he fails, he'll "be wearing a real skeleton face." Mark tries to get Keyop moving but he instead takes off with Nambu. With time running out and the goons closing in, Mark, Jason, and Princess flee back to the Phoenix.

Skuldoon feels they have beaten G-Force and launches his subs. Meanwhile, the Phoenix goes airborne with Jason reporting no sign of Keyop or Nambu. Princess urges Mark that they can't leave them behind. Mark can only lower his head because they have to stop the whale subs. Tiny reports "the sea monsters" with Jason practically throwing a fit to forget the monsters! Jason feels there's nothing more important than saving Keyop and Nambu. Mark says they have to go after the sea monsters and that is what they do. Tiny flies the Phoenix toward the whale subs.

On board the subs, a goon reports the Phoenix. Skuldoon orders all ships abandoned as the Phoenix closes in. The whale subs break apart small icebergs in their way. G-Force is shocked when the whale subs begin to dive but time runs out as the darts explode. Tiny maneuvers the Phoenix out of the way just in time as shrapnel goes in every direction and rocks the ship. After a bit, everything calms and Tiny lands the Phoenix as the team keeps their eyes open for any sign of Keyop or Nambu.

Zark says G-Force has saved the migrating whales but worry about the missing pair. Princess wonders if they got out while Tiny praises Keyop's bravery. Meanwhile, Keyop and Nambu surface with Nambu depositing Keyop on an ice floe. In return, Keyop removes the signaling device and watches Nambu swim away. Keyop reports in, much to his team's relief. Zark is happy all has worked and while there is a bit of sadness at Nambu's departure, the whale will need lots of space to grow. He is a whale after all. Zark tells Rover that Nambu will always be a loyal friend of G-Force.
