BotP film "wish list"

Post: # 622Post Bobkat »

Not sure if this belongs here or under series discussion. I'm sure The Other Jason will straighten me out. ;)

Anyway, I suspect this could be a longer-ish post/thread because I had lots of thoughts going through my head last night just before I went to bed. I'm thinking the title of thread would be a good one based on what I want to express. :)

As I've written before, I hope those working on the film will stay within the spirit of the series. Obviously what sold in 1978 is not necessarily going to sell today. That's reality and fact.

So, let's start with what we know from the series.

First, the universe is much more complex than some in the past have given credit for. The Intergalactic Federation of Peaceful Planets is locked into a fight with Spectra. While this is pretty cut and dried on the surface, it's anything but. There are spies afoot on both sides (Intelligence has to be gathered somehow!) as they seem to know an awful lot about each other. This is before we start talking about the individual planets involved such as Riga, Alpha-Three and Sigma Minor.

Slave trading also occurs ("Super Space Spies") and there's lots of encryption devices floating around ("Curse of the Cuttlefish", "Capture of the Galaxy Code" and "Defector to Spectra"). Not to mention stolen devices/vehicles ("Space Rocket Escort") and plans ("The Sky is Falling!").

In other words, it's involved. And this is just the background! I plan on posting about the characters too. :)

My biggest wish is that they do explore Zoltar's gender fluidity like they said they would. It would be great if he became a non-binary character. I never liked the way they ended Katse, and one day I am going to do a rewrite on that ending and make it less homophobic? I think that's the word I am looking for. (Yes I am aware it was the 70's lol)
My other wish is that they do keep the spirit of the show intact as well.

I won't put many Expectations but here's the thing. Remember when the Russo brothers said it won't be a direct adaptation. Which is I expect lots of different things or Original stuff from them. It can be their Original new ideas, It can be more leaned to Gatchaman or it can be something else. so idk

all of my expectation goes to Good writing, Execution, and Production Design. That's all. If it's edible then I'm on the game

On your second point, I completely agree! :) I want a well done film, first and foremost.

Your first point has me worried. "Remember when the Russo brothers said it won't be a direct adaptation." If they lean more toward the original material from Gatchaman, call it that! Battle has its own universe and characters with their own stories. It's this last part I hope the Russo Brothers don't ignore. :)

Not a big deal. what I mean is, it's more like they taking Elements from these particular series. In a comic book movie adaptation, the showrunner or the director usually takes some elements from a variety of comic versions and merges them into one new story. They can lean on Gatchaman or G-Force guardians of Space as part of their reference to build the new story while it's still BoTP.

While there are elements that are the same throughout the three versions you mentioned, in my opinion, if they bring too many elements forward from either Gatch or GoS, it will stop being BotP. That's my point. While the entire process is completely out of our hands, I hope the Russo Brothers keep this in mind.

Thus why it's a "wish list" and not a petition.

I get it. You got a point and I respect your view.

if that's the case I have no Wish unless it turns out to be good, Profoundly made, and reaches new expectations for a New Audience. Just like The Batman and EEOAO (which was produced by AGBO as well).

I wanna add that they might be lean on something that is entirely new (as they mention they're building a new "Bible" out of it), not leaning on Gatchaman or G-Force or else. that's why I said, "I have no wish". So who knows.
