I know this has been brought up before, but let's bring up our thoughts here in this thread.
Spectra, in general, in portrayed as a dying planet looking to use other natural resources, such as those found on Earth. They're aggressive in using various giant mechs and this is after the Federation offered Spectra Vitalumous but the planet wants the entire supply for themselves. No doubt, in order to put Federation members under their thumbs. Of course, some of this information is from 7-Zark-7, so it could be suspect.
Located in the Crab Nebula, the planet is part of a binary star system ("Raid of the Space Octopus") with a pair of red suns. This planet is not above enslaving nearby worlds, such as Sigma Minor ("Tentacles of Space"). During the course of the series, they manage to destroy Riga ("Attack of the Alien Wasp"). The planet is still there, but the ecology is a mess.
