Battle Of The Planets most terrifying episodes and monsters.

Post: # 1591Post Cure DragonEagle 255 »

Sorry for making yet another thread but I thought this would be a great topic ripe for discussion. Most of the monsters in Battle Of The Planets are pretty freaky, especially for a 70's syndicated kids cartoon. I think the most terrifying one is The Space Mummy. Nowadays its pretty quaint, but the monster is really something. A huge gigantic titan that destroys a whole airport and when it loses its bandages it gets even creepier! And its extremely radioactive! If Dr Sweet didnt make anti-pluton everyone would be dead as a nail.

Sure in Gatchaman the monster was a lot more deadly, killing hundreds of people and destroying planes but the monster did leave a VERY good impression.

"How can G-Force cope with an awesome force that is neither human nor machine? Be sure to watch this exciting episode, coming up next!"

The boards are here for talking, don't be sorry for creating new topics. I wish I had some more time to do the same.

Yeah, the monsters in the series were great. The majority were mechanical, but the most memorable for me were the organic flowers in the two "Fierce Flowers" episodes.

They were just creepy. The way they grew so quickly, how their tendrils moved, that sort of spiky surface, the color scheme, not having eyes but still be able to navigate just fine, the weird noises they made, being pretty much indestructible and then ready with countermeasures when G-Force thought they had the answer, the terrifying interior of their maws, eating people, attacking and eating PRINCESS! How dare they?! Then the final way to defeat them was with blood? Everything about them... yecch!

Additionally, there was the reaction of the G-Force team members to Princess' sacrifice and disappearance. Then Mark having to go through with the wrenching, but ultimately ineffective, mission to firebomb the flowers with Princess still stuck inside one. As a kid you expect to see the mission work... but it didn't. The emotions and very disturbing monsters in that pair of episodes really made them stand out to me. I was always happy to see them turn up in re-runs.

I cant believe I forgot that episode! That's one of my faves! Those flowers where TERRIFYING. Sure, in Gatchaman they actually killed the women. But being in their bellies is terrifying and especially now that I realize even in Battle some poor victim must have been still inside a burning flower and burned to death. Battle was really dark too.

I enjoy conversation starters like these, please continue to create them. This and the subreddit is pretty much all that's left for us fans to discuss the series.
With that said, I can't decide which is the worst one. It prompted me to look at the series though and I can say there were some pretty amazing and ingenious ones. There were some really ugly ones, but of course I remembered the prettier ones like the peacock and the Asian dragon. (That dragon did some major damage.)
The thing with a thousand eyes, that one was pretty creepy, so I guess that would be my vote.

Yeah, the thing with a thousand eyes was horrid, I'll say it's joint first on my list with the fierce flowers. Part one actually gave me nightmares until I eventually saw the conclusion, except I missed it the next day since my brother had started watching something on the other side. :x

Of course I figured she was rescued eventually, as she was still in following eps, but it was still a while before I found out how!

That "thing" was also pretty gross. A lump of goo with eyes. I'm glad it didn't put me off potatoes!

The dragon you mentioned (the Sea Dragon from episode 22?) is one of my absolute favorite designs too.

I think another really ugly one is the Brain Creature from episode 65. I enjoy most of the episodes with creepy enemies, but this one was never a favorite.

You guys wont believe this, but that episode right there with Muto was one I thought would never find out the name and number of. Because that episode shows up in this promo with Bozo! I really wanted to know more about that episode. Apparently they are robots in Battle!

The way the eyes blinked open too was just ick. I think what really added the extra creepy to it, is it was more organic and less mech. Now I'm going to have to watch it again.
Oh btw Lady Mallanox, I've been meaning to ask you, is that your YouTube channel I've been following?
