Something occurred to me

Post: # 733Post Bobkat »

When I was watching this video last night, something occurred to me.

Video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaeV9a5cwis&t=331s

It's an extended sequence from the ADV Films dub of the original series. As they stand around discussing Katse, Dr. Nambu wonders if he isn't partially at fault due to being a scientist. I get that but let's be honest - Nambu is trying to own Katse's problem. And to me, it's commentary of partially what's wrong with the world today. People trying to own other people's problems and/or sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong. ;)

I would say to Dr. Nambu one thing. "Not your circus, not your monkeys!" Never mind you have five monkeys who dress like birds trying to save the world! In other words, sir, you already have your hands full!

Also note, I'm kinda an odd duck so I may be reading too deep into the happenings. :) But what do you guys think? :)

I kindly disagree, he didnt try to take credit or attention. He wanted to say he as a scientist has some responsibility for Katse's situation. Sure, he didnt have anything to do with it but I love that moment. It shows great empathy... if you ignore the fact that he takes Berg Katse's mutation and fusion as a horrible thing. If you ask me THAT is the objectionable part.

Thanks CureDragonEagle! Exactly what I was looking for. Discussion!! :)

No doubt that Dr. Nambu has empathy towards Katse after the facts are made known. Ken certainly has it for a few seconds. :) But the leader soon turns and says he won't hesitate to kill Katse upon their next meeting.

The most tragic part is what might have been. Two happy twins living their lives without X's interference.

I have always had a problem with them saying Katse isn't human. Mutant yes, but I feel still human. It was the fusing of two humans, which in my mind, should still result in a human, genetically altered, but still human.
I agree it shows great empathy in that moment.
What has always bothered me is how X gaslighted Katse to believe they are an abonimation, a freak that would be discarded. That's how they end their life, believing that.
Maybe I too am reading too much into this, but I know what it feels like to be gaslighted and manipulated. X is classic NPD and Katse is it's tool.

I know this thread is as old as the Dead Sea and I have no business contributing but I always read it that Katse and other characters may believe he’s inhuman, but Nambu is really the moral authority of the series, not Ken, Joe, or any of the other science ninjas. And he considers Katse human enough to be very empathetic towards him and I’m pretty sure defends him on more than one occasion.

It also goes better with the overarching/consistent themes of human capacity for evil and having empathy even for people who are your enemies to see him as human. Katse made a decision to be evil at the end of the day, but just as much as that he also was a person who because of what he is was severely mistreated and because of that was easily led astray by evil.

I also really like that moment between Katse and Nambu, i thought it was very sweet how he essentially told Ken to stop tormenting poor Katse

There is a very good fanfiction by Alara Rogers that supports your theory. It's how Katse meets X and comes to be. It's called First Step on the Road to Hell.
I'm in the process of writing a fan fiction myself that gives Katse a better ending, a thing I've wanted to do for a long time.

I can’t find it on ao3 or FF.net

Those are the only ones I know about I’m not a big fanfiction reader or writer (I have a couple I’ve written (one im kinda working on) and none of them have an ending, two barely made it past the start)

Please help

You'll find it here. http://www.alara.net/galactor.html#:~:t ... e%20Condor.
Alara Rogers has a lot of Katse/Zoltar fics on this site. It's an old site but it still works. She wrote these at time when the pronouns they/them we're not a thing, so she came up with her own, which she explains.
There are other authors on there too. I still enjoy these stories. Also I do think Alara has posted her older ones on AO3, but may be using another name. One of the other old timers might know.

Thank you! It didn’t even occur to me that people would literally have to come up with pronouns for Katse at some point, so thats honestly kind of neat to me (though im not sure how easy its gonna be to wrap my head around that while reading )
