Center Neptune Control -

A bunch of us decided we missed having a weekly thing and decided to resurrect the Bradbury Jar Challenge.
The rules are simple. A prompt is provided, it's a phrase or a picture. You write a story, however long you want, set somewhere in the Gatchaman or variation of Gatchaman, like BotP universes. It can be any of the characters, you can bring in an OC if you want. There's no winners or losers. It's mainly to just have fun with it. Also there's no set time to answer the prompt, so if you miss this week or want to come back to it you can.
I chose to do the first prompt.
In honor of the start of October and all things spooky:

A twisted night

Go have fun , I look forward to the answers,

"We should do something different this year,"

"Different, how?"

"Well, we can decorate the 'J' as usual, but this time we actually dress up, and give mystery packets to the children that come in."

"So you want to throw a party?"

"Not really a party, more of a theme night."

"What's so different about that?"

"We'll be the only ones doing it."

Joe laughed. "You really think that this will be the only place holding a Halloween themed event for Halloween?"

"We'll be the only venue hosted by the Science Ninja Team."

"No!" Ken's response was blunt and to the point.

"You haven't heard the best part though," Jinpei persisted, "Here's the twist, right. We're not ourselves in Birdstyle, we make fake costumes and go as each other."

"Are you serious?"

"Sure, c'mon, it'll be a blast."

"It'll be a blast alright." Joe took a swig of his drink. "Just not the one you're hoping for."

Ah, now that depends on the next prompt LOL Thanks for your response though, I appreciate it.

So I am thinking, so no one person gets stuck with it all the time, whoever picks the prompt, picks their favorite answer and then that person gets to do the next prompt. Sound good? (And for this to work I need more than one answer, I'm looking at you Bobkat, Daniella, and anyone else, I think Neon said they'd have a go too)

That's certainly a twist on the original, I just hope we get a few more responses.

I had a curveball thrown at me in the last 24 hours. I will get something together.

Here we go. I have my contribution.

Arcturus’ sun shone in the sky with a broken ceiling about 300 meters up.

Mark smiled, I’m sure he was thinking it was a perfect day to fly.

It wasn’t quite midday, yet here the five of us stood.

Princess took a deep breath, soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Keyop and Tiny could always be counted on to provide comic relief. They didn’t disappoint.

I chuckled to myself as Tiny struggled to keep up as our smallest teammate ran around to the various vendors. No doubt, Keyop was in search of sweets. I’m sure Tiny didn’t want to be left out.

We were here today to help Arcturus launch a new train. It was state of the art – the fastest, most luxurious in the Federation.

Of course, we were undercover as we didn’t want the attention on us. It would take us two days to complete this maiden trip.

After a few hours of processing all the passengers, it was time to board.

Our cabin was set up as a suite. The beds were separated from the sitting area by a sliding door – the type seen in Japanese tea rooms.

Once we were underway, I settled back and flipped through one of the magazines I brought along. Keyop and Tiny wandered while Princess sat cross-legged across from me. Mark brought some beverages from the dining car.

“Don’t worry, I got you some herbal tea.” He told Princess.

I chuckled, “Still not a coffee drinker, Princess?”

“You guys can keep your mud.” Princess smiled when she took the tea from Mark.

Sometimes, they’re too cute to the point of being sickening.

It had darkened about three hours into the trip.

One by one, each teammate went to bed. Well, except for two of us.

“Can’t sleep?” Mark looked up from his book.

“You already know the answer, Skipper.” I smirked.

Mark shook his head and grinned. “Neither can I.”

“No matter how ‘secure’ it is,” I air quoted with my fingers, “I can’t help but keep my guard up.”

“I know what you mean.” Mark squinted at the window. “It’s still slightly open?”

“Yeah.” I nodded and stood up to close the window.

*THUMP!*

We both jumped back.

“What the hell is *that*!?” I nearly yelled.

Mark panted before catching his breath. “That thing …”

“It’s like a bat with nothing but a mouth!” I interrupted him.

“Yeah!” Mark nodded.

We stood there watching this thing sucking on the window. It didn’t have many teeth, but more like suckers on an octopus.

It slimed the window pretty good – I couldn’t help but be impressed by the creature’s accomplishment.

After several minutes, the creature moved on.

Mark finally gathered himself. “Wow, what a twisted night.”

I faced him. “Really? … That’s all you got?”

Mark grinned and shrugged his shoulders. “What do you expect, Jase!?”

I started laughing and he joined me. So typical of us.

What is this creature? Benign local fauna... or something more sinister from Spectra?
