Hi all,

I'm a bit hesitant to report about these because I don't think they can be purchased out of Japan. But I figured fans would like to see them at least...

Amazon Japan has offered a series of print-to-order shirts from their "Merch by Amazon" line, which is sold in their Bokan Department store. They have included seven different Gatchaman designs, in two colors each.

1 - Gatchaman "College Design" T-Shirt
In white or heather grey
2 - Gatchaman "A Tee" T-Shirt
In black or asphalt
3 - Gatchaman "B Tee" T-Shirt
In white or black
4 - Gatchaman "Ga" T-Shirt
(So called because the symbol is "Ga," the first in the Gatchaman title name). It also has a small image of Ken on the lower left.
In black or red
5 - Gatchaman "tsu" T-Shirt
(So called because the symbol is "tsu," the second in the Gatchaman title name). It also has a small image of Joe on the lower left.
In black or royal blue
6 - Gatchaman "Cha" T-Shirt
(So called because the symbols form "Cha," the third and fourth in the Gatchaman title name). It also has a small image of Jun on the lower left.
In black or pink
7 - Gatchaman "Ma" T-Shirt
(So called because the symbol is "Ma," the fifth in the Gatchaman title name). It also has a small image of Jinpei on the lower left.
In black or orange
And I know what you're thinking... but you'd be wrong. Poor Ryu appears to get the shaft again. There is no "N" T-Shirt listed to complete the title logo. Fan speculation in Japan is that it might be made available next month.

Prices appear to be ¥2,980 per shirt (approximately $27.12 US -an absolute bargain for most Japanese clothing prices). Each shirt is available in men's, women's and youth styles in sizes from Small to XXXL. They were offered for sale on Amazon Japan starting July 2.

If anyone has any success purchasing any of the shirts outside of Japan, please let us know!

August brings a series of new Gatchaman shirts from Amazon Japan's "Merch by Amazon" and Tatsunoko's online Bokan Department shop. This time and additional 14 designs are available (in Japan only). Unlike last time, only a few of this month's shirts are available in more than one color. I wish they could be easily ordered outside of Japan, but at least we can look at the pictures!

Wow, that's a lot of shirt merch!

I like the "College Design" from the first set. The numbered shirts in the second are neat, too (though all I could think when I saw it was "Look! You can have a large number emblazoned on your chest, too!"!). The color design shirts are a little too artsy for me, though I like the fact that you can show you're part of the fandom "incognito", 'cuz only another fan would probably guess what the mosaic represents.

The "C" shirt with the team is also nice, but I'm not crazy about the fact that they basically took a cel or previously created illustration and plopped it on the shirt. I mean, using either of those is fine, but couldn't they silo the team out, so that you don't see the "box" around it?? Granted, it would have been intricate work with all the detail in the illustration, but still... (And yes, I realize I'm being picky!).

I wish I could say I saw something really inspiring, but the "Color Design" one is probably my favorite since it's the most different. If I had to pick a favorite. Even though it feels like a partially-executed idea as it is. All the other shirts use existing or design guide art that's been seen many times.

That "C" shirt... I'd hope the actual item wouldn't include that white box. It wouldn't be hard to knock that out in any image editing program at all. Nearly an instant fix. The process on that one may not allow the printed area to conform to the team's outlines. Because that looks like an iron-on instead of something screen or ink/dye printed.

I kind of want an "I'm SCIENCE" shirt - just for the comments and questions while out and about (but what's with the placement of that "m?")!

Oh goodness - I didn't catch that before (I think I was too busy pondering "I'm SCIENCE", since, technically, the team aren't scientists) but now that I have seen it, I can't unsee it!!

And now that you've mentioned the weird "m" placement, why is "SCIENCE" in all caps??

Incidentally if you ever want to see some cool Gatchaman t-shirts go to Red Bubble, put Gatchaman or Battle of the Planets in the search and see what comes up. I got an awesome Katse shirt from there and a Gatchaman team cup.
