Official episode synopsis

..To disrupt Earth's ability to produce Vitalumous, then take it over as a supply base.

..To find a way to get past the Space Octopus' formidable defenses.
....

On Planet Spectra, the Spirit informs Zoltar that their Galaxy is doomed unless they can control Earth as a supply base. The Spirit has a plan - if the Earth's production of Vitalumous can be halted, then the very Federation will crumble, leaving the planet open for conquering. So Zoltar is dispatched to Earth with instructions to make a base in a remote area of the Antarctic.

Once on Earth, Zoltar strikes at power centers in order to disrupt the production of Vitalumous. He uses a new Spectra monster called the Space Octopus, which is actually a series of individual crafts that can join together. The monster proves very effective in destroying various facilities with its ray beams, and G-Force must be brought in to stop the menace.

However, when they confront it, they notice it can block some of the Phoenix's control units. G-Force is able to fire a single missile, but a laser from the Space Octopus destroys it almost immediately. A second shot from the monster destroys the Phoenix's missile launcher! Mark orders the attack abandoned and G-Force try to flee - even employing the Fiery Phoenix in their retreat. But Zoltar attacks the Phoenix with something called "cell missiles," which attach themselves to the Phoenix's hull and force the ship out of transmute. Tiny somehow manages to bring the Phoenix down in a soft crash landing and the team abandons their once mighty command ship seconds before it blows up.

7-Zark-7 must quickly come up with plans for a new and more powerful Phoenix. Not only does 7-Zark-7 come up with new weapons for the Phoenix, but he makes sure that each of G-Force's individual vehicles have new defense weaponry as well.

With their new individual weapons, G-Force is able to easily destroy four sections of the Space Octopus. They then regroup on the Phoenix to launch their new missiles at the final section which contains Zoltar and his command crew. They score a direct hit and the final piece of the Space Octopus is destroyed. However, Zoltar and his crew manage to flee in an escape craft as the Spectra leader vows to return!

Note: In one sequence, Chief Anderson refers to "Energy Complex A-B dash two" but Mark has Jason plot a course for the Phoenix to "Energy Complex AB-Z." The broadcast script shows Mark's line as "AB-2." This could be a misread line by Casey Kasem, or possibly a typo in the actors' recording script.
