Official episode synopsis

..Zoltar wants to kill Jason while he's separated from G-Force.
..To protect Jason and Lucy during their race..

..

G-Force is heading out to attend the yearly African 9000 Mile Obstacle Cross-Country Car Race in which Jason is a participant. This is a grueling, nonstop event which requires a two-person team in each car. this year, Jason's partner is a beautiful blond woman named Lucy. Because they're aware Spectra might try to harm Jason during the race, the rest of G-Force plan to monitor his progress from the sky in the Phoenix. When he meets up with his co-driver, Jason notices she's carrying a rifle, which she says is for defense during rough parts of the race.

With the race started, Jason and Lucy hit it off as they reminisce about past contests during the first leg. But before long they're presented with the first of Spectra's challenges... a trio of robot giraffes that fire rays and rockets at them! Lucy grabs her gun and destroys the giraffes. But then she almost fires at the Phoenix overhead. Jason stops her and she explains she thought it was another alien craft.

The next morning, after a night of pouring rain, Jason and Lucy's car is bogged down in mud. Jason is pushing it from behind while Lucy guns the engine. But while he's outside he's confronted by a charging rhino robot. Jason leaps out of the way at the last instant and the rhino strikes the rear of the car, inadvertently freeing it from it from the mud. G-Force sees the rhino and they manage to knock it into a body of water with the Phoenix, where it explodes. Lucy sees the Phoenix again but is still unsure if it's on their side.

7-Zark-7 locates an enemy control point and alerts G-Force about it. They fly in with the Phoenix and notice a van hiding in the woods. They're sure it's the control vehicle for all the robots. It is also very close to a checkpoint where all the drivers have to stop. When Jason gets out of his vehicle at the checkpoint, Spectra soldiers are hiding in the woods waiting for him. But Mark and Princess disable them, allowing Jason and Lucy to safely continue the race. Soon, Lucy and Jason are attacked by flying robot buzzards. The buzzards fire missiles at the car but the Phoenix is able come in and cut them down before they can cause any harm. Later that night the two are attacked yet again, this time by a pack of robot hyenas... They launch themselves at the car and chew on it and scratch at it, but Jason is able to dislodge them by making a daring jump across a chasm.

Jason and Lucy manage to finish and win the race, but Spectra has one last surprise ready for him. As Jason tries to talk with Lucy inside a room after the race, she starts acting strangely. She covers her face and runs away from Jason towards a window in the room. She crashes through the window and falls a couple stories hitting the street below with an explosion. When Jason rushes over to see why, he sees a destroyed figure and realizes that Lucy was nothing more than a robot. She was a Spectra agent Zoltar destroyed for disobeying their orders.

.

Jason is one of the world's best race drivers when he isn't busy with G-Force

The Spirit and Zoltar know Jason's name and that he's part of G-Force

The Spirit says he does not trust robots, indicating he is not one himself

7-Zark-7 and 1-Rover-1 were not built with self-destruct buttons

In scripts, Lucy was originally referred to as "Blondie."

Note: Actress Janet Waldo counts this as her favorite Battle of the Planets episode. Mainly because the role of Lucy gave her a chance to act out a different character with a real emotional edge.
