A serpent-like robot monster 7-Zark-7 believes is from Spectra comes to Earth and attacks an oil refinery and an oil tanker. It drains crude oil from both targets, destroys the refinery and makes its escape by burrowing underground.

Chief Anderson informs Mark that his old friend Dr. Harlan wants to meet with him in the city. Dr. Harlan reveals to Mark that recent seismological disturbances are occurring along unfamiliar fault lines. Just then, a quake strikes. As Mark and Dr. Harlan flee, the ground opens up directly beneath them and they fall into a widening chasm. Mark transmutes and grabs hold of Dr. Harlan's arm but unfortunately, he loses his grip on the Doctor and has to leap out of the closing walls before he too is trapped.

Sometime later, Mark visits Dr. Harlan's grave where he is unexpectedly attacked by Dr. Harlan's daughter, Debbie. She blames Mark for her father's death. Finally, she bursts into tears and collapses into his arms.

Back at Center Neptune, 7-Zark-7 tracks the Serpent and he uncovers its latest target, a water and power complex. Mark joins up with the Phoenix and is greeted by the sight of Debbie on the bridge. He points out the Space Serpent is the thing responsible for her father's death and assures her it will never hurt anyone again. Jason wants to fire a TBX nuclear missile to destroy the serpent and rest of the team struggle to keep Jason from firing as they are too close to the city. Mark suggests luring it away to destroy it.

When out of harm's way, Mark offers Debbie the opportunity to destroy the Space Serpent. Debbie approaches the firing button but is unable to bring herself to destroy the machine. Mark commends her for resisting the urge to seek vengeance. Mark gives Jason permission to wipe out the Space Serpent. Jason fires and the Space Serpent is destroyed. Mark comforts Debbie by saying that her father would have been proud of her.

G-Force and Chief Anderson accompany Debbie to her father's gravesite to pay respects. Mark removes his Wrist Activator and resigns command of G-Force because he feels he let his own personal feelings overshadow his duties as commander. Anderson says everyone makes mistakes and he is confident in Mark's abilities. He then reassigns Mark as commander of the team.

The Space Serpent showed up on Earth to attack oil refineries. It could burrow underground by spinning rapidly and surface at any location to drain oil tanks through twin hoses that extended from its mouth. It seemed to operate equally well whether underground or underwater. Additionally, its movement through the ground caused tremendous seismological disturbances. Its body segments could detach and attack separately, as each carried a small laser. The Space Serpent was destroyed when Jason fired a TBX Nuclear missile into it from close range.

The captain of the Space Serpent monster is a robot
