The Spanish translation of Battle of the Planets was called La Batalla de los Planetas and the situations and stories were translated faithfully from the American source. It ran as a fully dubbed version in all Spanish countries. However, there were two different translations done. One for European Spanish countries and another for Latin American Spanish countries. This entry deals only with the European version created in Spain.

The complete eighty-five episode series was purchased by Spain's national TVE network, although only fifty-nine were ever translated and broadcast. It began airing January 13, 1980 on Sunday evenings. After a break at the end of Novmber, it returned to air on Tuesdays in June, 1981. The balance of the new episodes aired until the end of September, 1981. The series was licensed to air through June, 1982.

Curbing violence in children's television was an issue at the time in Spain just as it was in the US. Spanish news articles noted Battle of the Planets' care and attention to these concerns. From the January 13, 1980 edition of ABC Madrid,

"Battle of the Planets" Science Fiction Series
Starting today, Sunday, at six thirty, Spanish television will begin broadcasting the American animated series production of "Battle of the Planets," consisting of eighty-five, half-hour episodes. The series has been thoroughly designed to prevent depicting acts of violence that could traumatize children. Each episode has been carefully supervized by a psychiatrist and a lawyer who helped ensure producers adhered to the strict children's programming rules created by the National Broadcasting Association.

Spain received several music releases on 45s and LPs. Like many other regions, they had their own theme song for Battle of the Planets.

-----
Lyrics to "Battle of the Planets"
(Carlos Moncada, Roberto Selles, Félix Lapardi)

There is a war between galaxies....
and the Commandos defend our land from invaders,
they're brave and face Spectra without fear.
There are dangers, adventures, but Commando G always triumph,
the Commandos will rid the world of Spectra and its horrors.
Our planet depends on them in this war between galaxies.

Mutation!

The battle of the planets is a great interspace war
with evil forces sent from Spectra.
Under the sea at Center Neptune,
the vigilant watchman 7-Zark-7 controls
the galaxy's superpowers
that have encountered a thousand battles.

7-Zark-7 watches the screens, sounds the alarms
and the Phoenix flies through routes in space
to attack the many new monsters that want to obliterate Earth
the Commandos are there to beat them again.
The galaxy's superpowers
that have encountered a thousand battles.

Phoenix on fire!

The battle of the planets is a great interspace war
with evil forces sent from Spectra...

Spain created several high-quality comic books that were adapted for other European regions. They also had a number of card collection albums and activity books.
